If you keep doing that, the others would say, your neck will stick that way. You'll be stuck forever staring at the sky. You won't be able to look down. You won't be able to look sideways. You'll only be able to see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and that will be all you know.

He wanted to say that he didn't mind. He wanted to say that he would rather know the sun, and the moon, and the stars than anyone or anything else. He wanted to say that even if he wasn't as rough or as tough or as strong as the rest of them, he knew what he was made of, knew what stories the sky and everything above could tell him about who he was.

He wanted to tell them everything.

He didn't. Not at first. Not until he had grown, not until he could speak for himself, not until he could find his voice among the stars and breathe life into the whispers that made their way across the sky, early in the morning. He would tell them of how it spoke to him, tell them of what it said to him. Tell them that the sky told him what he needed to do because no one else would.

He told of the sky.

Name Origin: Her personality is as bright and overwhelming as her pelt, and she became known for pushing others to be the best they could be. Still, the life of an adolescent totoma comes with its challenges, and when she met her challengers, she became known for getting in more strikes. She may have been less skilled, may have been less strong, but she was fast, and between her colours and the way she wove and feinted, her opponents would often be dazzled by her in combat, struggling to make their blows land where they wished.

Name Origin: Getting neighboring clans in the mountains to agree to something can be... difficult at times. Totoma aren't exactly known for their diplomacy. Frequently it seems their desire to butt heads, most often in the literal sense, overrides any interest in cooperation or agreement or even a general understanding of what they're warring about. This is where he, a buck long-distanced from any clan himself, found his strength. As a neutral party he provided a middle ground for warring clan leaders. He would bring them together under truce to hash out the details of their conflict and then, once all were of the same understanding over the nature of their disagreement, the clan leaders could decide their next course of action for themselves.

He wasn't in the business of bringing peace. They were Totoma. This was their way. But he could at least help them figure out what they're fighting over. What came of that was rarely his business.
