Blossoms After Rain remembers slipping into the mud when he was a small buck and everyone laughing. This one doe, who never laughed, helped him onto his feet again. Spring Roll is an independent, resilient kin. You might say they don’t have any trouble rolling with the punches.

From the day of their hatching, Spring Roll has been alone. Their mother is the heedless, eccentric type, had made the decision to build a nest at the top of a hill: so that she could enjoy the view as she waited upon her babies. One of her eggs rolled away, of course. Miraculously, no worse for wear, it landed upon a mossy bank. As it would happen, the mother was absolutely terrible at counting and didn’t have a sweet clue how many eggs were in her clutch, to begin with. Naturally, Spring Roll hatched, out of sight and out of mind.

Slipping on some loose mountain rock, my friend had cut their leg open. With horror we realized that they might not be able to safely make the trip home. I acted quickly, remembering the words of my nana, and tended the torn flesh with some moss and bound the wound with grass. We ALL made it home. That’s how I earned my name Wound Binder.
