Name Origin: As a foal, he was meek and unsure of himself. The other foals in his tribe meanwhile pushed and fought to be noticed, to be named. Some would be reckless, others tended to be bullies. One day, the lot found their first unguarded eagle nest. Most immediately fought to get eggs, glory, or cool battle scars. They wasted so much time that the parents of the clutch returned. He was the only one watching, and with a startled cry, let everyone know of the threat. But they still dallied. Despite his fear, and his shaky legs, he pushed himself into the fray. Despite the protests and the raking against his fur, he rallied everyone into a nearby cavern. Safe, and secure. While the rest of the lot were lucky to come out of the fight with their eyes intact, he came out of it courageous.

Name Origin: They had to press on to find shelter before the storm picked up any further. The foals, however, were struggling. It was their first long march, with little food or rest provided before the beginning. The adolescent buck took it upon himself to share what rations he had, and when the foals could walk no further, his generous spirit let them take refuge on his back so the group could make it to safety in time.

Name Origin: Every kin knew him for his smile. Even in the throes of battle, he would joke, totally fun and carefree. Once he tripped over his own tail and tumbled down a cliff, and when the other totoma came to rescue him, they found him wounded and bloody— but still laughing. It was then they knew that his humor was unshakeable.

Name Origin: When he plunged into the water, gripping the boar’s neck with everything he had, he was dimly aware of the mistake he was making. It probably wasn’t worth it, but at least they’d say he died honorably…
He came to, later, violently coughing out water as someone leaned on his chest. Fur sodden, he looked around. Everything was a blur, but he could see clearly the enormous boar lying next to him, deader than he was- which was the important part. He looked up to meet his father’s eyes, pleading for a quick glimpse of approval. “No air,” he croaked, by way of explanation for his current weak state. No air for either of them, him or his prey. The difference was that he’d had kin around him to help him get his breath back. They provided for him, just as he provided for them. Kin needed others to survive, or else they’d drown, choking on their own isolation. Drowning a boar to feed them all was the least he could do in return.

Name Origin: Oh, she'd been utterly foolhardy, running all over so close to the edge of a cliff. Over confident, unafraid. Nothing would happen, she was just too clever for that, too quick, too agile. Right up to the point she wasn't.
All it took was a slip of the foot and the foal had slipped, falling. Tumbling head over feet against the rocky mountain wall until a spindly, prickly tree had broken her fall. Sort of. Her body stopped, but only because she'd slipped between two twisting branches, found herself dangling there by her neck with another terrible fall behind her and nothing but the sky above. She'd thrashed and twisted, squirmed and struggled. Small body starved for air until...
She managed to wriggle free, just as the darkness had eaten away at her vision. She fell, tumbling once again, to finally come to land in a plush bush. Worse for wear, definitely sore, but blessedly alive.
