Your party has set up camp for the night. What happens during your first watch.
Sparkling Sunrise was not...the best at keeping watch. They had some free time! Why wouldn't she grab one of her books and read? Yes, she kept an ear out, but the lure of studying was too much. She propped herself up against her bedroll, feet towards the fire for warmth, and she was ready for a few peaceful hours.
It was a good chunk of her book later that she heard rustling in the foliage around their camp. Sparkling Sunrise froze and held her breath. She closed her eyes tightly and listened as carefully as she could. When the rustling continued, she opened her eyes and glanced around at her party members. They were all sound asleep! It would really suck if she woke them all up and it was a squirrel or something. Sinking down a bit more, she reached for the Wand of Magic Missile stashed in her pack. Even if it was a squirrel, she could scare it away with it.
When the rustling got louder, Sparkling Sunrise slowly got to her feet and held the wand out in front of her. She scanned the edge of the clearing for any changes, but saw nothing. The rustling happened again, and she whipped around to face it. It got closer, and closer, and eventually...nothing came out. Sparkling Sunrise made a hum of confusion, before calling out, "Hello?" She tried to make herself heard while also not shouting and waking her party members. There was no vocal response, but she did clock that the fire began dancing in a strange way. The young wizard pointed her wand at the flames, as if that would somehow be effective.
Before she could assess further, a spit of flame zoomed out at her, and she jumped away. Then another, then another. Sparkling Sunrise strangled back the yelps of surprise as she danced between them, trying to avoid getting burned. It was all so strange that she forgot about the wand in her hand completely, and just tip-toed for her life instead. Eventually, the sputtering stopped, and she heard a giggle coming from the flame. A tiny dragon head peeked out from the flame, and she gasped. "Nice work, youngster," the creature snickered. It slithered out of the flames and unfurled butterfly wings. The young wizard could barely contain herself when the faerie dragon revealed itself to her.
"Oh my gods, oh my gods, oh my gods. You look amazing!" she yell-whispered to the violet dragon. It chuckled quietly and came closer. "And you managed to survive my little game without waking your friends. That's quite a feat," it commented. It sat up on it's hind legs and surveyed her for a moment. "A feat that deserves a reward," it added before slithering back against the hot embers. "I think I'm going to hang out a while. You look like you have questions. Ask them, and I will answer."
