Fun fact!: Another favorite of mine, the wooly rhinoceros, was once mistaken for a dragon. The skull of a wooly rhino was found in Klagenfurt, Austria in 1335 and was displayed at the town hall for hundreds of years. It was said to be the skull of a dragon that had plagued the town. In the 1500s, a sculpture was made to commemorate the event. The lindworm-style dragon looks very much like a dragon from the neck on down, but the head has the distinctive shape of a (hornless) rhino skull. And in the 1800s, the skull was correctly identified as belonging to a wooly rhino! The skull is currently on display at the Landesmuseum für Kärnten (State Museum of Carinthia).

Fun fact!: Finally, I can't not talk about Megalania, Varanus priscus. This massive monitor was the largest land lizard to ever exist (mosasaurs, which are literally just lizards, but wet, could get larger). It's a sister taxon to the Komodo dragon, which was long believed to be an example of island gigantism. However, looking at the massive Megalania, it's more likely that it's an example of island dwarfism. Megalania went extinct about 50,000 years ago, and it's likely that aboriginal Australian people interacted with them, since Australia was first populated by humans around 70,000 years ago.

"I never believed crocodiles could truly be as scary as some kin claimed.. until I encountered one myself! The little ones are really cute, and that was my first mistake. They make such cute little grunting sounds, and I wanted a closer look. What I didn't realize is that crocodiles are fierce mothers - and momma was NOT happy that I was so close to her babies. I almost lost my tail that day.

Still, when I think about how adorable those little baby crocodiles were, it was worth it. I just won't be getting so close to any of them in the future.... just in case."

Fun fact!: Mammoths have a hump. In it, like camels, they accumulated fat reserves.

Entry:
I was on the swamp bank looking for tea leaves. Completely absorbed in the search, I didn't notice the impending danger - a crocodile was approaching me from the water. Suddenly it shot out of the water towards me, then a bright flash shot past me. Orange Sizzle had spotted the crocodile and rushed over. She drove it away with a generous slap on the snout. Always be vigilant!
