Prompt response: 18. A school trip takes an unexpected turn for the worse.
Life was difficult for young Hokusai mostly because his name was Hokusai in the suburbs. If his brother hadn't fallen sick before the annual Little Fishes camping trip, he wouldn't be so alone. Hokusai didn't especially mind being alone, being of a quiet and stoic temperament, but he was somewhat tired of getting his mashed potatoes thieved from him before he even got to sit down.
Never mind that, he had fishing to do.
Hokusai sat at the edge of the pier, danging his feet off the ledge, letting them trail the water. The ripples sometimes brought more fish, and he was used to their curious wet mouths investigating his toes.
Then he felt it.
The Thing.
In the water, it was but a dark shadow, almost slimy in visual, but he couldn't comprehend it. It touched him like no other fish did. A Dreadful Horror.

He slid down the wire of the trapeze, his hand locked with his twin's. They worked without nets, death yawning below them, but he could feel his heart clatter in his chest. It was like breathing, the easy exchange of trust and gravity.
Calculations made faster than any machine, decisions made together. With one glance, they could do it all. They were thin, spindly cords of muscle, grasping and twirling and turning, and at the end of it all they bowed, together, clutching each other on the same platform, in the heady whirling vortex of adrenaline. They were monsters, the pair of them. All eyes were on them. They could do anything, as long as everyone else stayed out of their way. Everything up here, at the top of the tent, belonged to them and them only.
A circus performer, a dancer, an actor; on stage, you are the master of your soul and you are sharing it with the world.

Henry could barely look at it. He had recognised the sender immediately. He felt his vision blur, and he tried to concentrate on the formal words as his guts iced over.
We regret to inform you that due to lack of evidence-
It was an investigation notification. They were dropping it. Of course they were dropping it. How much time...it wasn't like Henry expected anything from them. He didn't think they could handle any of it in the first place. It was up to him to resolve.
No, alright. No matter. The less attention, the better. It was dangerous for anyone that got involved. Less for Henry to worry about. So why did he feel so, so alone?

It wasn't that Harrison was soft. He thought he was pretty capable of exploding guys he'd been hired to explode, for the most part. And it wasn't just that it was a monster of legendary proportions that would make anybody reconsider a little. It wasn't even that it was rare, or magical, or damn near sacred.
It's that the dragon was funny. He was an alright guy. That was the problem. That's what Harrison hadn't been expecting. And besides that, he had a feeling that although it had probably nabbed a few cows, he didn't think it was snacking on the town's citizens. In his gut, that messy business felt like it was at the claws of some other creature. They could probably work out something with the dragon. Hell, having a dragon around and keeping them sweet could be alright for everybody.
Besides, who wouldn't like him? The dragon was a downright fucking charming. It wasn't because he was handsome. Probably, he was. As dragons went. But that wasn't the reason for Harrison balking. He was sure. Pretty sure.
You were sent by those above you to kill the mighty dragon. But when you get there, you realize you don't want to.

(I've already done prompt 17, so I'm doing prompt 1 instead!)
Life of the Party waited off stage for the announcement. His heart was thundering in his chest as the anticipation crept up his spine. Why did these few moments always feel like he was frozen in time? He adjusted his costume for what felt like the hundredth time. He could hear the costume designer now, scolding him for picking at his delicate work he slaved over to fit him perfectly. The announcer's voice snapped him out of his swirling thoughts, and he unhanded the delicate applique of his costume and put his hands to his sides. Closing his eyes, he counted down while the announcer spoke. A deep breath centered him while the music began, and as if he was a puppet on strings, he leapt out onto the stage.
The lithe man swirled and leaped, dove and spun. All eyes were on him as he swayed with the music as if they were one. The performance felt like an out of body experience, where he was just a passenger in his own body. The steps of the routine were written in his bones. His chest swelled with breath to keep up with the exertion. While the moments before felt like a stop in time, the performance itself felt like time sped up.
Before he knew it, he was bowing center stage. The audience jumped to their feet and the concert hall was filled with applause. He smiled, eyes glittering, at the fans who came back time and time again to see him. This was it. This was the life.

A school trip takes an unexpected turn for the worse.
"Watch your step, children. The walkways can become slippery," the teacher called behind her. Tiny Screech took the cue to hold onto the handrails as they descended the stairs into the caverns. She could barely contain her excitement! She'd been looking forward to this trip for weeks! Her eyes stared in wonder at all of the formations in the cavern, spotlights capturing the glimmer of moisture and making everything sparkle. A few unsteady footsteps had her tear her eyes away to make it down the stairs safely, and she was relieved to finally reach the bottom of the staircase. The massive caverns around her made her feel so small, but she didn't mind.
The teacher continued to show them the various formations and they practiced identifying them. There were several formations that looked like they were shaped like certain things, and they got to guess before the teacher revealed what the cavern owners called them. It was a blast! Soon enough, they were making their way back to the staircase leading to the surface exit. The teacher paused a few steps up, and her eyes widened.
Before she could stop it, a thunderous sneeze erupted from the teacher. The echo carried far down the cavern. There was a pause, and then the group could hear something else down below. The sound grew and grew, the echo filling the large cavern. When the group realized it was screeching and fluttering, some of the kids screamed in terror as they all rushed up the stairs to try and get away.
But, it was too late. The cavern, and the group, were overcome by the enormous flock of bats.

Dear Madam/Sir,
It is with regret that I inform you that your beloved Uncle has passed away. He unfortunately became addicted to wing suiting and has perished by flying into the side of Mt. Stalagmite. He had no other next of kin, but does leave behind a boyfriend and his dog. As his sole heir, you now stand inherit his home, fortune, and wing suit collection. Please contact me below to discuss the allocation of assets.

Tonight was the night. She had been practising hanging from the highwire by by gripping it with her toes. It had taken many months to increase toe strength but she had managed it! Finally tonight, in front of the opening crowd, she would debut her new trick. Behold and make way for the newest diva of the three rings!

The bus was long gone. They'd just been in a bathroom off the trail, they really weren't that far away. Did no one call for them or did they miscount again. Someone was going to notice and someone was going to get into trouble. Maybe them, but some adult for sure. They think that's kinda funny. They ought to wait near the parking lot, no doubt the bus was probably turning around now. But f*ck em. They decided to hike to the top of the mountain and watch the sunset, and listen to the chaos below as they look for the lost student.

You are a witch. What kind of magic do you have?
Blood Harvest harnesses the magic of the blood. The bloodier the better. If she gets a full kill to play with, she can divine things from the dissection. The blood itself, she keeps and uses for summoning. Summoning what? Best you don't find out. She also uses blood for writing runes for protection, scrying, etc. If it can be done with or heightened with blood, she can probably do it.

* ˚ ✦ WEEK THREE WINNERS ✦ ˚ *

Congrats!! Please post your preference lists in this thread. As a reminder, you can only win one pet/familiar and one kin for this event and the zikwa/sand dog pairs count as both so if you choose that option, you cannot win any more kin/familiars from this booth! You can totally still participate for those sweet, sweet pebbles, however, or just for any writing/AU exercises that you feel like! There may also be a raffle at the end of the event for some AU art...
In stealing a page from blue's book: you cannot win from the same pool as the people before you. This means if Person 1 wins a sun/moon kio, then Person 2, 3 and 4 etc cannot win a sun/moon kio as well.
THE POOLS:
RAINSONG BREEDING
SUN/MOON KIO
PETS/FAMILIARS
