Roe prided himself on being pretty good at fishing- maybe not as good at it as his mom, but like, she lived for it. And she had that whole glowy eye, emissary of the motherfather whatever thing going on, so how was he supposed to compete with that? But the... thing he pulled up at the end of the line, well.

It scared him.

He knew he shouldn't be scared, it was just an acorn. But the gaze... and the size... yeah, this thing was probably cursed.

He threw it back.

Yeah, he did. Matter of fact, he was still thinking about it. Those eyes... they'd haunt him forever. Even if he never saw that acorn again, it had probably cursed him. He was pleased when his rock ka-thunked into the log. Maybe that would help lift the curse?

46. You pull up a fish that leaps and creates a rainbow in the air before it splashes back into the water.

Eagles-Landing considered himself great at fishing. He was patient and calm which was needed if one didn't want to scare away the fish. The line was pulled then relaxed as he waited. A quick hit pulled the line taut and he yanked the line hard. A fish shot from the water, the line dislodging, and the sun bounced from its scales to create a rainbow. It was such a lovely sight, he didn't really mind when the fish evaded him and slipped back into the sea.

Grained Melon thought fishing was easy. He made himself comfortable at the edge of the water but quickly realized how boring it really was. The surroundings were beautiful, no doubt about it, but no fish were biting. The day passed until suddenly waves appeared on the water. First small and inconspicuous, then they got bigger and bigger. A whirlpool formed that almost sucked Melon into it. Luckily he reacted quickly.

Of course this was the first year Story had managed to make his way to the Stump. Previously he'd been busy with his own booth and games or had just found himself running out of time. He'd heard about it, though. And as he sat, waterlogged, next to Tricks in the middle of an ocean that shouldn't exist he could tell those stories hadn't been exaggerations.

He watched the small acha doe for a minute before silently picking up a fishing rod and casting the line into the waters. A few times he thought about saying something to his ... companion? Captain? But what does one even say in a situation such as this? He thought, distantly, that he should be filled with some long earned wisdom, and perhaps he was- Maybe not for this moment, however. What a sorry thing to realize.

Thinking there was a pull on his rod, Story let a soft sigh and leaned over the edge of the Stump to peer at what might be his prize.

39. You stare into the water and see someone you love staring back at you.

Pale eyes, ringed in darkness, stared up at him. Hair flowed over and around her face, obscuring any defining features other than those eyes ... But Story knew. It was like being struck by lightning.

Secret.

He was already half way over the edge of the Stump before he caught himself clumsily and threw himself away from the water.

It's not real.

A wail threatened to force it's way out of his chest, but never made it past his throat. Story just sat there, hind legs splayed akimbo, with his mouth open in a silent scream. It would be quite some time before he would gather himself, woodenly thank Tricks for her company, and head below.
