It was time to get ready for softball practice. The outfield was mowed and the infield was raked and chalked. It was a beautiful day and slightly overcast so the sun wasn't beating down upon anyone. All the equipment appeared to be accounted for.

When Dawn Breaks

Dawn approached the field, glove in hand. She was excited to be practicing her throws, maybe even do a little hitting. Approaching the dugout where all the equipment was she was about to search for the bag of softballs when her attention was stolen by one of her teammates as they approached. "Hey! Nice day for practice, yea?" She said with a smile as she turned and waved.

Woods heaved her catcher's equipment over her shoulder as she made her way to the field, glad that the sky was overcast today. She loved playing catcher but when the sun was beating down on her in all the gear, it made the position a little less fun.

She gave Dawn a wave as she let her bag slide off her shoulder at the entrance to the dugout, knowing full well that it was much easier to get all her pads on outside where there was more room. For now, though, she was just looking to warm up with her teammate out in the field.

"Hey Dawn," she said as she dug her glove out of her bag. "Definitely. Gotta love the clouds." She flashed her teammate a grin as she adjusted her visor. "Guess we're a little early, huh?"

"It appears like it. Doesn't hurt to get started while we wait though." Turning while Woods got her stuff together she went to look for the softballs. Bats, extra gloves, helmets.... but where were the balls? "You didn't happen to spot the bag of balls on your way over did you?" She said curiously as she continued to shuffle the equipment around. She wasn't finding them over here but it was possible they had been set down in order to carry things easier to the dugout.

Woods dug out her water bottle after making sure her hair tie had secured her thick, wavy hair. That was another drawback of playing catcher: you always had to wear a helmet. She looked like a chinchilla gone wrong after a long inning in the sun.

When Dawn asked about the balls, she glanced around to see if she could spot the bag their coach usually kept them in. She lifted her bag a bit as well to see if she'd dropped it on top of it.

"Huh...nope." Everything else was out, though. The balls were usually next to the break in the fence that allowed the players to get on and off the field, but it definitely wasn't there.

"Maybe whoever got all the equipment forgot to grab them?" she asked more than said. Even saying it sounded wrong. "I can run and check the supply shed."

When Dawn Breaks / Have the Last Laugh

That was a possibility.....

Dawn continued to search where she was and looked around the dugouts a bit. She had no idea where they could be. And no one else would be using this area at this time.

As she searched she spotted someone wearing a hat and sunglasses leaning against one of the fences.

"You guys lose something?" She said with a half smile and she continued to lean against the fence.

"What's it to you?" Dawn said as she continued to search around for the equipment.

Woods hunted around as well, deciding that if she did need to take a trip over to the equipment shed that she'd rather make sure the balls really weren't in the area. She looked up as she heard Dawn say something and spotted the other person leaning against the fence, seeming to enjoy watching them search.

"Yeah," she said, moving over to stand closer to Dawn. "You know something about it?" It wasn't like their coach or their teammates to forget the whole point of the sport. It was call softball, after all.

Last Laugh removed herself from the fence and shrugged. "Is it not okay to ask someone a question these days?" Waving a hand she moved away from the fence.

Dawn rolled her eyes and turned towards Woods and whispered, "Well, either way it seems we need to figure out where they went. Be it this gal took em or they got misplaced." She said looking around and then back towards Last Laugh.

Woods gave a roll of her own eyes at the girl's flippant tone, but she wasn't about to back down.

"Let's just ask her point blank then," she said to Dawn before stepping forward slightly.

"We're looking for our bag of softballs. Usually our coach puts all our equipment out here for us but they're missing. Which is weird, considering you can't play without the balls." Her tone wasn't confrontational but Woods stared at the other girl with a hard glare. "We were the first ones here...excluding you. So, I'll ask you again. You know something about it?"

Last Laugh looked at them from under the visor of her hat and shrugged.

"Are you sure you didn't just overlook something?" She said gesturing towards the dugout.

Dawn looked back towards the dug out, what could have been overlooked. Going back she went back to where the equipment was and there was no way something was being overlooked. Then she saw it.. A paper on the wall, but it was so unassuming it was easily missed.... "What is this?" She asked, not so much in a demanding tone but demanding none-the-less as she opened it.

It was a drawing. Of course it was. "I suppose this leads to where the balls are?"

Last Laugh waved her hands, "I don't know, maybe it does, maybe it doesn't." Staying where she was away from the other two. "I may have left that or may have seen someone leave it. I think that following the note would be your best bet though." She suggested.

Woods continued to stare at the girl as Dawn walked off to check the dugout again. The more she stared, the more she wondered if she knew this girl from somewhere. She kind of looked familiar...

But when Dawn spoke up she turned away, moving back to her teammate to see what she'd found. A drawing. Or a map, once she got a better look at it. It was a picture of all the different fields at the school and a little dotted line leading to an X. It was over where the large field that lots of different teams used to play, as well as the track. The X was under the bleachers.

"You think, huh?" she muttered, glancing at Dawn. "I'm gonna go see if anything's there. You stay here in case someone else shows up and is confused."

Last Laugh remained where she was and leaned back against the fence as she watched Woods go check out the map Dawn had found.

"Yea, I can do that." She said as she watched Woods walk away and more of their team mates begin to trickle in. Though she didn't mention the missing balls just yet, as if they were under the bleachers she didn't want to alarm anyone that they were missing.

Woods gave a little nod and trotted off towards the main field, avoiding other groups of students that were gearing up for their own practice. She went around, behind the bleachers and, sure enough, there was their bag of balls. She hoisted it over her shoulder before walking back, not wanting to run with the extra weight when they still had an hour and a half of practice to go.

"Got 'em," she called as she returned to the field, dropping the balls at the pitcher's mound.

Dawn smiled as woods came back with the balls. "YAY!" Though, she spun and looked towards Last Laugh.

Last Laugh, at this point decided to walk closer and removed the hat and glasses they were wearing to reveal one of their other team mates, the one no one really liked because she played stupid pranks like this all the time. "You should have seen your faces. I got you guys good today."

Dawn rolled her eyes. "One of these days your tricks are going to get the better of you." She warned. Turning back to woods she motioned towards the balls, "Wanna throw with me? I have some steam to work off." And prepared for practice.
