Asunder
Rebel. In the wake of the thunder it refused to separate completely, barely hanging together by a thread, stood the magnificent, fractured mangrove.

Recoil
"I'll show you mine if you show me yours."
Faster than a watersnake striking, she fled, horrified.

Look-See
My smile's the brightest.
Aren't I pretty? Smell my beautiful flowers. Come and follow me.
Let's take a look-see at the things I want to show you, and ignore the shadows.

Zilch
"One for me, one for you" and so it continues.
He can't keep up with the quick movement of the foxbun's hands.
It's like magic.
It must be so because after he thanks the being for being so helpful, he looks down at his pile.
Nothing.
Not quick on the uptake, he's back at the beginning.

Chasm
The distance between them was staggering—a real feat of nature.

Ate the Canary
No mushrooms. No trespassing. No loitering. No blood. No talking to strangers—An entire vocabulary surrounded around the word "no."
Restless was she, and tired. Stunted, even. And then she saw the stranger's songbird. What a mighty sight! It was brazen red streaked with fierce blue, yellow and indigo. Emerald eyes showed a dulled flatness. It couldn't be helped. She sat there riveted, unable to take her eyes off of it. She was possesed with a single-minded intensity to posess it in every form possible. She crept up and ensnared it with her mouth, strangling its cries with her own labored chomping; bones crunched and she coughed up feathers. How delightful! And when the voices asked if she knew what had become of it, she whirled around and replied with the only word she knew:
"No."

Goldenrod-Adorned Log
Nestled in lies a fallen log bowing under the heavy weight of sunlight catching wings.
As the sun descends, they light up, carrying on the sun's mission.
Fireflies scatter.

Wonderwood
Peek in to a world full of marvel and wonder.
Come, little ones, you won't be disappointed.
Inside the hollowed out log is a field of mushrooms,
sparkling with the night's ray on clean dew,
the unmistakeable scuttering of insects,
the flapping of wings and a quiet, low slithering.
Everything's glowing.
Quiet yet humming with life; it's a party.

Fishtails
Drought, the voice dryly hums to himself.
There's no drip-drop, but instead the sound of flip-flop and swish.
Twin fish flap their last breaths, leaving imprints of their scales and tail.

Webcap
Hey, pitter-patter.
I know those footsteps well.
Come a little closer.
Break me off my stalk,
snap my neck in two.
Feed me to whoever and watch us die together.
Romantic, really.

Jubilee
She read the stars. She made the bones dance. She consulted those who ate fungus. She fasted for her own enlightenment.
But it was time. Rolling cockleburs out of her fur, she got to her feet in a swift move. Tail sleekly upright, she began gathering them. A low drum made itself more apparent as the day wore on. Countdown begins.

Coming up for Air
There it stood, a shining beacon of all that was good. He was so close to the top he could taste the warm air. He knew what would happen from here on out. Like a unit, his limbs will kick and in return, the water would propel him to the surface. Bubbles slipped out of his mouth, clouding his vision. An instinct-driven burning thrummed from within his ribcage. His sides pinched and his form lost its graceful arch. His eyesight downgraded to tunnel vision and further until only a sliver of light pierced the waves. Like a pod popping out of its shell, he shot out of the water, flinging droplets left to right. He didn't care. Head in the air, he took his first and most satisfying gulp of air.

Weak-Kneed
Inhale. Exhale. There exists a keening awareness of the being behind her.
They are both out of breath, but the other being's breath shifts and blows her hair forward in a soft fanning of a halo.
It's the crack that gives. Her knees buckle and she rushes forward, fainting.
