[align=center]Welcome to the official launch of the Children of the Night, or simply the Children. This nocturnal tribe dedicate themselves to appreciating the night time, to the point where the vast majority of them live completely nocturnally, in order to properly appreciate the night time in the swamp.

This event is meant to introduce you to the tribe, encourage you to enter your kin into it’s ranks and, most importantly, give loads of kin and familiars away to help everyone experience a little sparkle! This tribe is themed around space, and lots of lovely starry kin are up for grabs in contests throughout the week.

You may enter as many contests as you like but you can only take home one prize - however, I will assign prizes all at the end of the event, going in the order above (judged contests first, then luck-based contests last). More details on each event will be in the posts below.

Please keep all your contest entries in one post, but feel free to make other posts, such as to submit kin to the tribe and respond to things.

This event will run from Monday 7th of November to Monday 14th of November, at roughly midnight Eastern.

NIGHTS OF PLENTY

This time of year is special to the Children. As nights grow longer, the time they have available to bask in the glory of the night increases. The moon is up for longer, the stars shine brighter, and the cooling air and slight bite brings them closest to how they feel the night is at it’s purest - dark, endless, unyielding and mysterious. This festival is an occasion where the tribe gathers to celebrate the coming of longer nights, but also to prepare for the winter ahead, when they will be most active. It’s a very exciting time to join the tribe, so if you want your kin to have newly joined, they will have ample opportunity to hear many stories and learn all about the tribe’s beliefs.

The constellation creation contest is a storytelling contest. Using this template you must create a constellation and then write a brief story about the constellation you have made in character from the point of view of one of the above kin.

Here is an example of what kind of constellation you might create.

The Children of the Night gather under the stars and gaze lovingly at the blanket of darkness above them, picking out twinkling lights and spinning tales of what they show. Some stories are well known, and some are newly told that night, as younger members of the tribe contribute their knowledge to what the tribe already knows. And three young kin step forwards…
This contest will be judged by myself and AMItotic. You may enter up to three times.

This twin naming contest is for the twin of this buck, owned by Kuro. He will be named Through Space and Time, and your name must in some way mirror his. Whether it compliments it, is the polar opposite, or something else, it must tie in with Kuro’s name.

One of six, and he might just be the shyest of all, his mother’s nervous shadow. But what of his twin? Does she mimic her brother’s reserved nature, or is she confident and outgoing? Is she a perfect reflection, opposite in every way, or are they two halves of the same whole- complete together?
This contest will be judged by kuropeco. You may enter once.

This raffle is completely free to enter. That’s right, you can enter this with absolutely zero requirements! However, if you happen to enter a kin into the tribe, you can gain extra tickets, up to a cap of 3 extras, for a total of four tickets.

The nights of plenty celebration is indeed a celebration of plenty. So many stars, and so long to enjoy them. There is an abundance, and kin flock to the tribe to hear the stories, to partake in the celebrations, and maybe even to join. Members new to the tribe and not alike are treated to singing, stories and celebrations through the night, for seven nights on end…
This contest will be decided by a raffle.

This dice game is really simple. Just roll a d100 and quote the number you rolled. At the very end of the event, I will roll 2 d100, and whichever two people are the closest to my rolls (who have not yet won anything) will win the wolves!

Something else has been lurking around the tribe during the celebration… but what are they waiting for? Or, perhaps, it is a case of who are they waiting for?

Background: Butterflies has been always been naturally inclined to dusk and night, and sees it as a nice opportunity to make friends.

Preference List: White Buck, Black Doe, Seafoam Buck
Constellation Story: The Running Kiokote, or the Runner for short, is a summer time constellation that arcs across the sky starting at the tail end of spring and disappears across the opposite horizon come early fall. It is believed that this was once a foolhardy Kiokote who challenged the sun to a race and ran so fast they cleared the ground and landed among the stars.

Kin Name: Many Bright Lights
Preference List: White Buck, Black Doe, Seafoam Buck
Constellation Story: The Feathered Serpent is a spring to summer constellation that reaches peak visibility in early summer. This one is believed to be the wayward familiar of a kin who asked their feathered serpent to retrieve a star for them, only for the serpent to grow distracted by the many glimmering stars. The snake sleeps as colder weather encroaches, but appears again as the winter rains recede.

Naming Dream: There is something wrong with the sky, something eerie and unnatural. It's been torn at, and the Motherfather bleeds too brightly, too terribly. She tears her eyes away, and finds her own pelt's deep darkness now torn into as well, bleeding just as the Motherfather does above. The space between her and the sky seems to shrink, only to be ripped into, hurtling off into the unknown.

Naming Dream: Weaving about in the dark

Constellation Story: The Smile: The Smile is a story of treachery, a cautionary fable for those far too trusting kin. It rises early, one of the first to be seen after the sunset, and hides amongst other stars. The Smile is that of a great Crocodile, who was known for tricking the ancients into approaching. Crocodile's smile was an easy grin, and kin were taken in with a false sense of security... until, snap! When The Smile sinks below the horizon in winter, that doesn't mean it's gone away– Crocodile is simply hiding. Those smiling jaws are not to be taken lightly!

Constellation Story: The Sleeper: This constellation, a kin in repose, is said to be a kin who fell in love with the moon. Each night, they would sink to their knees by the edge of the water so that as their head drooped down, they could gaze upon their beloved's reflection. The kin's devotion to the moon was touching, and when they died, the moon brought them to the sky so that they would never have to be separated.

Constellation Story: The Horned Brother: This constellation represents an Acha buck who protected his little sisters from a great sandstorm by hiding them in his curved horn. How many sisters can you spot hiding in the arc of that horn?

Naming Dream: In her dream, she burns bright- but erratic. She's the doe who fell to earth, streaking through the night and landing hard, gouging deep, fiery tracks in the ground. She rises in a fog, eyes blinking against the mist. This is not her world, but it is her night.

Naming Dream: She swims through space like the sea, traveling ever forward through time and space. Who knows what she'll find out here in the dark? Whatever it is, she's certain that it's not the way home. She's a forever traveler, voyaging onward through the cold ocean of space.

Background: She's a quiet sort and her clutch of children is everything to her, as is making sure that those around her are safe and protected. She wanted a position within the tribe that will keep her close to her young ones and that wasn't as dangerous as a hunter may be; on top of this, her desire to safeguard means she wants to learn as much as she can about things like herbs and medicines. Because of her gentle and reclusive nature in general, she prefers to work alone, so being an herbalist works best.

Background: Starglean is softly-spoken and absent-minded with an affinity for the stars. Since a young age, guided by her naming dream, she had been reading the night sky for answers. Finding out there was a tribe dedicated to it full of kin who she could share her passion with made her giddy with happiness. Finally she could make some friends and have someone to talk to throughout the night.

Background: A playful and cryptic doe who enjoys speaking in riddles as much as she enjoys unraveling them. She was drawn to the shapes in the stars for as long as she can remember - and even before that. The paths of the stars are written in her dreams, though they aren't always clear even to her.
