Her tribe liked to engage in revelry after a victory, drinking sweet fermented fruit juices and enjoying themselves. While she joined in as much as everyone else, she never seemed dulled by the drink the way her friends were. One night, while they stumbled, a would-be ambush was thwarted by the doe, who was sober enough to alert everyone. Surprised and grateful, they called her Never-Drunk.

A battle suddenly turned deadly, and one young doe was left with the corpse of her enemy. She buried them in a shallow grave, hiding it beneath branches and flowers. She kept the ruse up for quite a while, visiting every so often to take care of it. When they stumbled on her and her hidden grave by chance, she was given her name.
