Name Origin: He was born in a desperate litter of two in the maw of winter. His smaller twin sibling did not make it to adolescence and his mother wasa grand and brutal beast who expected him to keep up with her or join his twin in the snow. They did not have a herd at that time and he did not have a father. Life was hard and life was always, always hungry. The snow was deep and thick with the forest even thicker. When she tried to kill him, he didn't take it personally, it was another mouth, another hunger gnawing at her survival, but he was stronger, he had been born stronger and grown up into a larger brute than she. She sustained him. The Totoma that he met on his trip to the swamp cared about honour, but he did not. No one knows where he found the pigs and boars, but they respected his strength and he devoured their weak and infirm. With no herd of his own, he became known simply to the others as Boar, and his name was earned from infamy.

Name Origin: The little family had pushed through a day's worth of drenching rain only to be met with an impossibly dark night to follow. Stuck in an open floodplain, the mother and her young were forced to stop, surely, and wait out the dark new-moon cloudy night, and perhaps they would've done just that, except for the little fawn's sudden burst of stubborn energy. Tired from a long walk and cranky from the wet fur she'd had to deal with all day, the little fawn hated the thought of stopping now. Not when they were so close to home!
So she forged ahead. Mother called after her in fear for her daughter's safety. Then, in an almost dazzling, magical scene, that fear disappeared to be replaced with awe and shock.
For the little fawn had rushed into the tall grass and sent flying thousands of fireflies, which spiraled and flurried into the air in a dazzling display of startled blinking lights, blue and green and white in the misty air of night. The little fawn led the way home from there, only a few short yards of course, lighting up the night with her sprinting and entirely unaware of her actions letting the little family get home safely when otherwise they'd have been stranded for the night, despite being so close to home.

Name Origin: In the early spring, the butterflies were moving, and the forests were so thick with them that every tree looked alive, and you could hardly walk on the ground without treading on tired and sluggish travelers, unfolding like flowers to bask and recover in the sun when the weather was fair.
A new Totoma had arrived in the tribe, appearing with the weather and the butterflies, and they promised ease and prosperity. With charm and wit, they accumulated a following. Many of their words were new and pleasant. They talked of being together always. They talked of another distant and beautiful land, beyond the swamp. They claimed the land was full of Sunlight. They claimed that you must die to be carried there. They talked of how difficult it was to arrive, that only the most faithful could see such a place. They did not talk about where they had come from, or what had become of their old tribe or friends.
It was another Totoma, unsure, who one day noticed a group of butterflies swarm into a ball, so tightly together that they became dark, not resting but spinning and spinning in a maddening wind, so much that they looked like a single lurching creature, and without warning the hulking mass twisted itself not towards the Sun, but into an open fire.
The event pressed heavily on his mind, and he could not help but see it as a sign of their own danger and impending doom. Armed with dread, he shared the Sign of the False Sun with any who would listen.
Like waking sleepers, the tribe began to realize the danger that they had fallen into. Together, they drove the stranger from their lands, but the stranger took with him a handful of his closest followers. The butterflies and their loved ones seemed to disappear at once, and the trees and ground felt empty and quiet.
Later on patrol beyond their regular borders, they discovered a field of flowers, and in it the remains of those who had gone with the stranger. These bodies, at least, they could return to the swamp. But the stranger's body was not with them.
For his part in the events of that spring, the Totoma received his Name, False Sun, to honor his instincts and in memorial to those lost.

Name Origin: Like her father, the young doe was drawn toward strange medicines. She was constantly scouting and looking for new and exciting ingredients and plants. Taking a cue from the swamp, the doe found that if she followed insects, she was always likely to find something good. By following the moths, she could find saps, nectar, dead and fermenting fruits, and fresh corpses. After her discovery, she could always be found following moths, earning her name.

Name Origin: It wasn't that he picked fights, from the very first day he could teeter uncertain on wobbly hooves he found that fights found him. Scuffles with other totoma, with familiars and everything he encountered. He was scrappy, and there was something about him and his demeanour that bothered other people, they came to him and he was happy to take them on with his hard head and incredibly thick scales. It went on through his adolecence and when he was grown he swore off fighting completely. No more, there'd be no more of it, it didn't matter that he had a record, he didn't care for the record one bit.
But when the pack of wolves came, he set it aside for the sake of his family and drove them off back whence they came and realised that maybe his natural talent would be good for something. He turned his attentions to helping to protect others in need of a bit of brute strength.
They knew him as Undefeated.
