Sylph was sure this same Totoma had been following him now for days. He had seen her before and now that he was seeing her again, he could stand it no longer. He whirled around, staring at the doe before shouting, "Why do you keep following me? What do you want?"

There was no flirtation, no demureness. It was pure anger and upset that bit into each word that came from his mouth. He suspected, knew, in fact, that this doe was here to take him and he refused to let that become a reality. He only needed to hear her reply and then . . . Things were going to get messy.

Brute minded her own business whenever she hunted. She was more than focused on getting food for herself. The only time she ever really bothered with other kin were if they were scaring away game or encroaching in on her territory. Still, it didn't mean she was oblivious or ignorant of the buck that she'd seen lurking around lately.

She didn't think he was spoiling for a fight. If she did, she wouldn't be beating around the bush for one. So color her surprised when he confronted, no, accused her of following him. When in fact he'd been the one to be loitering in her usual haunts.

"You have guts, I'll give you that. Think just because I'm smooth that I'm timid?" she snorted.

Sylph narrowed his eyes at the straight attempt to derail the accusation. No, he did not think her timid at all; he thought she was a threat but he wasn't going to admit that to her. If he was going to get through this, he was going to have to keep his wits about him. A hard thing to do when one had clearly (not that he would realize until much later) eaten the wrong mushroom and was suffering from a greatly aggravated sense of paranoia.

"You'll not take me alive," was what he eventually growled before he broke into a run and rammed into a tree trunk instead of the totoma at all. Shit.

The doe smirked as the buck charged at her, waiting for the very last moment to side-step out of the way. She raised a hind leg to give a sharp kick, giving him an extra hard shove on top of his initial momentum. She had rounded to face him again, giving an unimpressed snort as he crashed right into the tree she had been standing in front of.

"You're making this far too easy for me." she taunted.

The hoof had dug into flesh and he could feel the blood as it oozed slowly down his rear left leg. He did not have time to dwell on it and instead rounded, allowing adrenaline to flood into his system and hide the pain from himself. He couldn't take even a moment to consider being hurt as he knew the doe would have no qualms with taking him down and carrying him out to be her pet prize for eternity.

"You only think so because I have not yet begun to fight," he snarled, revealing teeth as he rushed forward and at the last second feinted to the left. He sunk his teeth into her side and bit down with all his might. He would have held on longer but he couldn't risk being in such close range and after a moment released his hold and jumped backwards. He couldn't tell if he had drawn blood but he hoped he had. She needed to know that he refused to go down without maiming her or bringing her to death's doorstep if he should expire first.

"I should hope so, otherwise this dance would be incredibly dull." There was an almost playful edge to Brute's sneer. As she felt teeth bite down, she arched upwards to lean into the attack, lessening the damage done to her. She anticipated his retreat and her legs coiled to spring towards him, closing the gap between them as if to ram him, only to use her bulk to sideswipe him using her whole body. The lack of scales might have decreased any lacerations but the smooth surface gave her less wind resistance and allowed the bludgeoning impact to be more pronounced.

"You owe me a memorable encounter at the very least." She laughed as she pivoted on her hooves to face him head on.

He was almost sure a rib or two cracked as her weight collided against his side and he swung himself as far away as he could without giving up the fight. There was no way he was going to let her drag him down so easily. And even less of a chance that he would give up. She had nothing to lose in this battle; he was fighting for everything. It didn't matter that the odds were stacked against him. He had to try; he had to succeed. For if he failed, he hoped there was a cliff nearby—

Sylph growled, teeth clenched, as he took in his surroundings and the totoma before him. He was too pretty and he had too much to aid her in endeavor. She was all smooth and seemed no less tricky than a wet fish that would slip over hoof and fur and flesh.

Without warning, he ducked his head down and grabbed onto a fallen branch thick with spindly twigs at the end and rushed forward, swinging it wildly towards her face. Perhaps he could damage an eye and make it harder for her to see him altogether.
