[BLESS] Self-Doubt (Hope For the Best x Breach)

Post by anemosagkelos »

Ascension, it turned out, did not solve problems, Breach was finding out. She had been a mare for months now, a year in fact, and while she felt as though she was closer to who she was, she also wasn't there yet. The litheness of her new form still felt foreign on most days and the emotions that had plagued her since birth were far worse now. It was only in the water, away from such things that she had a reprieve but lately even that wasn't true. There was something missing and it wasn't as simple as family or children or whatever kin filled their circles with. She had family but they were swamp-dwellers. She had children but they weren't like her. And she wondered sometimes what she even was anymore.

It felt bitter the knowledge that someone nearby wanted a blessing. She wondered if they knew who they were and what they wanted. A laugh; she'd never ask. And thus she'd never know. Still, it gave her something to do and so she continued on as a mare, not quite right and doubting all she knew. She hoped the unlucky kin could forgive her melancholy, they should've been luckier and found her mother. Giveforward had always known who and what she was; Breach envied her, sometimes.

Hope for the Best was a quiet thing. Soft spoken and gentle, he tried to offer words of comfort as they were needed. As it turned out, there were a great many in the swamp who needed words of comfort. Not even grand reassurances, but small and gentle words. A moment of kindness in a sometimes cruel world.

And no, he wasn’t the best at it. But he tried. And sometimes that was all anyone needed.

So needing help himself was… well. It was an interesting place to be. Not wanting to abandon his mate and her young, Hope for the Best had sought off to seek a blessing. Rumors in the wind, word of mouth, had lead him here. With a swath of honeysuckles in his mouth, he approached the mare, setting the brush of flowers down away from here.

“…hello?”

"Hello," the mare replied, even as her mind wondered if he thought she was deaf or oblivious to his presence. It was telling at she couldn't bring herself to even offer a sarcastic response, not because she was sarcastic at heart but because it was a tell of her awkwardness. When she felt out of place, she shielded herself behind it as if she was immune to what others thought, what others might feel towards her. It was all a lie of course. She wanted to be liked but she wouldn't beg for it. And if someone didn't like her, it felt best to behind she didn't care anyway.

"You're looking for a blessing for your impending young," and it wasn't a question. She knew it to be true. It was one of the few things Breach did know about kin, about herself. It was not possible to conceal such a truth from a Legendary. Unless they chose to ignore it because it called to them all, a clutch in need.

Or, she supposed, she assumed it must. If it did not, then why would they deal so much with those seeking a blessing? She should talk to other Legendaries about her thoughts but she felt as though they would only laugh at her. Shouldn't she already know these answers?

And normally now was when she'd ruin everything. Quiet in the company of others let her mind wander too far but today she was quiet, too. Her mind was still wandering but she had nothing to prove to him. If anything, it was the opposite for he needed her to still any doubt that his offspring would survive. They would, of course; she would see to that at least.
