Everyone watched as she stood tall, head held high, staring down the totoma across from her. He was the leader of their tribe, but she met his gaze unflinchingly. He had sought her out, heard of her strength and defiance, wanted to witnessing it firsthand. There were murmurs, members of her kin whispering, friend and foe alike gawking at her gall. Some were angered, some amused, but most stood with respect to her.

She had bested each challenge against her.

Each demand of submission was met with sure and ferocious defiance.

She was outnumbered. She did not care.

He was much larger. She did not care.


"Bow or Fight," the leader demanded, authority and threat dripping from his voice. He, and those standing close enough, saw the glint of excitement, watched as her features schooled themselves into faint amusement, her smile hardening, before she gave her answer.

"Fight," She said, body tensed and ready.

"I will forever choose to fight."

She didn't understand it, especially when she watched two sneak off to show their affection, and the sadness in their eyes when the herd moved further away as they put the herd before their hearts. The young doe, looked at them, "Go to them! Be happy!" When the others in the herd tried to keep the two from following their hearts, she stood between them. She fought for them to love, she fought for her chance at love, no matter which species of kin it was, or even gender. And she will fight for anyone to have the chance to feel love.
