As told by Look-See

To covet, to desire, to need.

When options were limitless and everything was a probable possession, boredom festered and jealousy came to light. It began with the the Pearl. Porous, but beautifully spherical, it was a thing to be marveled at by all the deities in the sky. Until one day it was stolen and the story of the fall is in every oral canon.

Bereft as if the pearl were its own offspring, the Swan ventured down to the marble of water and clay. Stomping and pecking it searched for its cold heartstone. It made a fine mess of the clay, separation bits from the large chunk as the talons dug new waterways and pushed back to form the mountains. Snow eventually happened but as time wore on and stars fell and rose, the others pitied the Swan and corralled together to apprehend their thieving brethren to give back the pearl. The slippery Serpent acquiesced and pointed to where the pearl would be. Swan glided down to find the land littered with a sea's worth of pearls.

Large, bulbous little moons, each shone in tricky temptation. Swooping to the closest one, she grabbed it. But pearls are delicate things, moreso the fake ones. In her strong spindly talons, the imposter crumbled, its facade giving way to a collection of petals held together by the center, a nasty little surprise- Serpent hid one of his tiny fangs in each center to pierce upon unveiling. Subterfuge was Serpent's game. He wanted to see how far the lengths Swan would go for the recovery of its precious pearl. He had soon lost interest in the ball but Serpent was hanging out with Raccoon more and more often, the propensity for the rare and obsolete growing by bounds. Thousands of fangs pricked and embedded into Swan's grasps but they persevered. The pain laced each movement until Swan's wings grew too heavy and Swan just hopped from pearl to pearl, hoping to find hers among the fake ones. She littered the ground with her sacred blood and petals. Serpent writhed in glee until Swan found the pearl. Likewise both beings rose to the sky in the fallen petals. As they ascended the sky, the luscious scent followed them and Serpent aptly named the flowers after their ascent.

Though sumptuous in delicate fresh scent, the aptly named flower held a wicked secret. And with that precious blood, color seeped on those once pristine petals creating dazzling myriads to tempt even the pickiest of creatures that would soon call that mudball home.
