He had gone to the edge of the world, or so it felt.

So it had felt when he had climbed slowly, steadily, painstakingly up the mountain's precarious side. So it had felt when he had nearly slipped, catching a hoof on a stray branch that nearly tipped him over the rocky surface and into the gaping chasm of the world beneath. So it had felt when he had struggled to ignore the burning, deepening feeling in his chest the higher he got, the closer to the very thing he did not want to face.

It was the edge of the world, but it wasn't. In truth, it was the sharp toothed edge of the highest place he knew, so high that he felt if he stretched his head up enough, he could taste the sky and the clouds beyond. It was perhaps not the real edge of the world, but with everything so far, far below, it certainly felt like it. And he had not wanted to come here, not at all, because it was too high and too much and too terrifying and he was too weak.

But he had come to the edge of the world (in his mind, at least) anyway, and here he was, and it was all right.

Her eyesight had always been bad. She was never quite sure if she was approaching a rock, a tree, or another kin. Her mother suggested that she should try to feel her surroundings, so she had tried prodding things with a hoof or a horn, but they all felt too similar. But... everything had a different taste! With that revelation, she started to lick everything that she encountered. Each object had an interesting flavor - some were quite awful actually, do not lick cave worms - and she was able to keep track of what was around her. She became very comfortable with tasting her surroundings.

One day, she was walking along when she happened upon a big blurry shape. She approached it without pause and gave it a big lick. Hm... salty. She was met with aghast sputtering. "Did you just lick my face?" the blur cried. There was a giggle off to the side from another, smaller blur. "Yes, she Licks-First." they tittered.
