The doe could feel her cheeks warm at Shadow's declaration that not even danger would have kept him from...well, Winter Market, right? But believe he meant her, whether true or not. It wasn't as if she managed to get word to him that he's family would be hiding a booth, so logically there was a chance he just stumbled upon them.

But what if it wasn't just happenstance?

She was saved from her internal musings by the pun he'd made, and the young doe giggled. "Bearing fruit," she mused, eyes twinkling a little.

"No, we were just talking, you're not interrupting." Well, he wasn't interrupting her, at least.

"Are you having fun? What sort of booths have you seen?" Hereafter hadn't had a chance to wander much, and she flicked a quick look at her parents, wondering if they'd let her head out on her own for a bit. Or not so alone.

Cried's head tilted thoughtfully. "I'm not sure what looks would have to do with capability," she admitted, tone still a little puzzled.

An ear flicked as she heard familiar hoof falls, her brother was there, and by the sounds of it he'd brought more berries with him. The spindly zik moved carefully towards him until she could bump up gently against his side.

"There's a kin here that needs a refill for his shooter, can you help him?" Maybe the older buck would be less hesitant to accept help from a sighted young buck.

Rp response: Snowy Ashes was back and ready to try again since he hadn't done great his first time around. He took a deep, calming breath before he stepped up and gave a tight smile as he loaded up the basket and began to slowly and meticulously take aim, adjusting and micro-readjusting many times before he was finally satisfied and let go of the basket a pleased whoop of delight as he hit a big paw print!

Clearly he just needed to do that two more times. With a little more looseness to himself he loaded the basket with another choice berry and proceeded to copy his movements from before. He took aim, and then he adjusted first himself, then the basket. Then himself a little more, then the basket again over and over till he felt confident in his positioning and he pulled back and let go. Only to miss it by the smallest of amounts bringing a frustrated groan from him.

"Well, I have one more try." he sighed to himself as he loaded up again, took another deep breath to center himself and released it before he even touched a berry or the basket. Finally he was loading the last berry in, and he was taking slow, careful aim. He didn't know if he should be as extra as he had the first two times since clearly it was a fifty-fifty chance at this point on if it worked or not, or if he should just throw caution to the wind and go for it. He decided to go somewhere in the middle and while he didn't just go for it, he didn't do all his mico-adjustments either. He aimed, and then readjusted a single time when his hoof slipped making him lose his aim. Letting go he wasn't surprised to see he missed that time too, and he let out a wry "Well, I guess I'll have to try again next time. Thanks!" before he was wandering off again. (331 words)

Rp response: Starving sauntered back to the berry booth to try her hoof at shooting some of the targets again. She'd been pretty good at it last time so she walked in feeling confident, giving her usual sultry gaze at the other kin that had hung around to play and chat. She had some work to do before mingling, though, so she took up a spot at an empty slingshot and loaded a berry into the pouch.

Her first shot hit one of the smaller targets just as she'd done the first time and it continued to boost her confidence. This really wasn't so hard! She tossed a look over her shoulder to see if any of the other kin were watching, but it seemed they were all either engrossed in their conversations or busy shooting at the targets.

No matter. She'd impress them all right now! Loading another berry into the slingshot, Starving pulled back, released...and missed. Hmph. A fluke. She loaded another berry and pulled the slingshot back once more, this time taking a bit more time to aim...and missed again!

She gave a snort of irritation as she righted herself. Starving's anger wasn't often apparent, but when it reared its head she was a force to be reckoned with. There were quite a number of kin around that she'd certainly enjoy getting to know, so rather than turning her rage at missing onto one of the boothgoers, she made a quick exit back the way she'd come. No comments to the booth owners this time, either. She needed to see herself out and find a snack to take out her frustrations.

Rp response:Trailing Ivy had gone through a particularly rough year and had finally chosen to mingle once again. The first booth she had arrived at seemed rather interesting, shooting berries at targets. While this wasn't something she would have ever thought to do, it seemed quite enjoyable from what she could tell from the sidelines. Watching the interactions of those around her it seemed like the place to be. Swallowing nervously, she approached and gave it a go. Her first shot wasn't on the mark, and she started to feel disheartened and then shook it off.

She was here to let loose, have a little fun and find joy in things. Taking aim she shot once more, the berry finding the target. Not wanting to lose her stride she took another shot and hit it once more! She gave a small jump in excitement but stumbled backwards and found herself in a rather clumsy situation as she bumped into a clay colored buck. "I am so sorry, I didn't hurt you did I?"

Rp response: Heart and Home took a quick break from watching over the petting zoo. Her daughter was more than willing and capable to manage things for a short period of time by herself. Instead of traveling to the caves or mountains this year, Heart stayed in the swamp to enjoy the Winter Market. She wasn't certain if this tropical climate was normal but she was enjoying herself.

In fact, she could use a nice snack. Oh a berry booth! How thoughtful! Tart at first then sweet as an aftertaste, how lovely! By the time the doe realized you were supposed to use the berries to shoot the leaves, Heart had eaten her ammunition. Oops.

Rp response: Unlife had suddenly and without warning gone silent. Not trying to be intentionally rude to Born, it was as if she'd suddenly gone mute or forgot that she was interacting. Whatever the reason, she chose instead to watch the interactions around her. Other kin so easily conversing with strangers, joking, flirting, or even greeting like old friends with lives and hearts so deeply connected. She felt something nagging at her. A feeling she couldn't keep at bay gnawing at the backnof her mind and growing to a tightening in her throat and ache in her chest. Her brow furrowed deeply, confused with trying to classify this feeling. It wasn't frustration, it wasn't anger or the urge for violence - those feelings had her coiled and twitching, ready for action. She didn't have the metallic taste in her mouth, as if she was tasting blood before she drew it. Still familiar, this was an older feeling, a scarier feeling. As she watched further, a deep chasm opened within her that caused her to suddenly exhale and recoil as if struck hard. Lonely. That was it's name.

She shook her head back and forth, quickly turning into a full body spasm, as if trying to shake the feeling loose and have it fall away. The only thing that fell was a lone tear. Enough. She had noticed other going back to try launching berries again and she threw herself into the activity. She hadn't bothered aiming for her first one, but it still struck true, the sound of the hit causing her to pause and blink. It was the distraction she'd needed, though, and she launched the other two shots she was allowed, each one landing true. The rare feeling of glee and clarity overwhelmed her, causing her to dance in spot and make little sounds of joy.

Rp response: The ever-cheerful Wasp was back at the market for Fun Times™ once again, and the very first booth that caught his eye was the berry range, which he definitely did visit last year. Definitely. That happened. Smiling happily at the booth's two hosts, Wasp scooped up a berry from a basket and picked out a slingshot to sit down on front of. Aiming carefully, he hit...a leaf! Oh, so exciting! Wasp bounced up and down for a minute before inspecting the leaf to determine his score. Only one point...

Well, he could do better than that! Wasp lined up for another shot at the wall and let his berry fly. And, in that very moment...a brightly-colored swooped down and grabbed the berry in mid-air! Wasp stared at the bird dumbfounded as it winged off with the berry. Did that even count as an attempt? "Hey, did anyone see that!" he shouted excitedly, but seemingly no one had. "I didn't miss! It was the bird!"

Yeah, sure, buddy.

Finally he picked up a third berry. He carefully inspected the clearing for more birds, and now he noticed they were everywhere: picking berries off the ground, stealing them from the baskets, and pecking at the splattered fruit on the wall. And there were more in the trees nearby. Wasp beamed at the cacophony. At least the berries weren't going to waste! Though he fully expected the third berry to end up snatched by another feathery asshole, when he released it he was pleased to see it smack squarely into a two-point leaf. "I did it! I won!" Rp response: The last time that Rotten Liar was at the Winter Market they had been running around in an activity that required them to gather berries. This time they had to throw them at leaves? It was an interesting concept, they guessed. Totally uninterested, of course. It wasn't like she liked berries, it wasn't like they had found tons of berries in the booth last time and then eaten them again. The kin looked down at the berries, their mouth definitely not drooling at all. They kept a strong face but inside they wanted to eat them. However, they also very much wanted to win even if they would refuse to admit it until the end of time.

The first shot didn't hit the intended mark but at least it scored.

The second shot didn't hit the mark. They definitely screamed out in frustration.

"This game is stupid!" However, that wasn't what they meant. Missing the shot made it more intense, more enticing and more thrilling. It made them want to shoot again. It made it more fun.

And then as if on cue, the last shot hit the big mark, and Rotten Liar did indeed triumph. They looked absolutely unimpressed, though.

Rp response: Making his way back to the shooting booth, Phantom decided to try his aim again. Unfortunately, his performance was....less impressive. He hit one of the small pawprints, but that was it, this time. With a slightly sheepish shrug, he thanked the kin running the booth, then stepped back off to the side. Perhaps he should have taken a bit longer to aim this time?

Rp response: Having decided to take a break from setting his own winter market booth, Voice had been drawn to this booth, the colourful paints and different kin trying their luck peaking his interest. Waiting his turn carefully, he watched the contestants before him, and how they were attempting to hit the marks in their own little ways. Upon realizing it was his turn, he shuffled up to the line that was marked for contestants to stand in.

"Oh, I guess it's my turn," he murmured out loud, going to start his three attempts. Lining up as well as he could, he started his first attempt, watching it fly and hit the big paw print. Oh, that's lucky isn't it? Feeling a little empowered, he tries for the next attempt, which sailed a little from it's original mark, but hitting the small paw print close by. He'd take it.

Realigning himself, he went to take his last attempt - he wanted that big number again. Clearing his throat, he took his last attempt, watching as the berry flew and hit the big paw again. Doing a little wiggle, he celebrated a good set of attempts.

"Wow, that was so much better than I expected," he told the kin coming up to take his spot in good humour, stepping back as he watched as they got in to place. "I'm usually a little clumsy, so this was a boost of energy. I hope I can come around again to try once more."

Who knows what he could win.

Rp response: Taking Root had never been to a berry shooting range before, but it looked like good fun. And she loved berries.

Taking a slingshot, she pulled it experimentally. Didn't look so hard, she thought. She grabbed a basket of berries, resisting the urge to eat them. Taking her first berry, she put it in the slingshot, aiming for a large paw print. The berry shot much further left than she wanted but manages to hit a small paw print. Okay, a little harder than she expected.

Trying to adjust, she shot her next berry towards the right, but this time, it veered the other way and hit another small paw print.

Getting more frustrated, she grabbed another berry. This time for sure. But yet again, it was another small paw print.

Not terrible, but not quite where Taking Root was aiming.

Relic was new to the winter market and had not played a game as such. The kimeti was naive and untested. She didn't venture out far from her born family. But she was also getting a bit long in the tooth to not know about many things. The age of exploration was before her and what better way to try out her luck with this game of chance. It was violent and it sparked in her something curious and fleeting. Capitalizing on the kindling energy, she signed up before doubt could worm itself into her heart. She could always outreason a decision. And many times she regretted it afterwards. Sometimes it was better to shut off her brain. She leapt forward enthusiastically and almost bumped into the kin in front of her. She apologized profusely. Cracking her neck from side to side, she rolled her shoulders back. She said a quick prayer to the MotherFather or even the Other. Surely someone would heed her silly little prayers. She was ready.

Rearing back, she gave a few good fake throws just to warm up. And then she let them really fly. The first one was successful to the point that she tried again! Even her second hit was good. Surely she would continue the trend. Ah, it was not meant to be. She wasn't downtrodden in spirits though, and vowed to come back next week. It had been fun, new, and exhilarating. It was good to be alive! Perhaps she would try out the other booths. Fortune favored the bold or perhaps just the really curious.
