[Familiars] The Hummingbird and the Caiman - Through Dec 4!

Post by Matope »

Image
The serene quiet of a reed-lined pond is interrupted by a low rattling sound. From its depths rises a strange creature: not a traditional caiman but a spectral, opening its jaws to groat and yawn, eyes glowing brilliantly in the gloom. Its teeth are sharp, yellowed....and then its mouth closes.

It's at this point that the kin in this pond realize their own forms have changed. They are not still in their own bodies -- no. Instead they, too, have taken on unfamiliar shapes: buzzing hummingbirds that rattle and vibrate through the air, zipping between these new monsters to keep themselves fed from the delicous flowers growing at the pond's edge....
This Dice Game takes place in a sleepy pond AU where your kin has been transformed into a Hummingbird! Their goal is to hop through the lair of the spectral caiman and steal sips of nectar from flowers as they do. It's a symbiotic relationship, of course -- usually these two species help each other out. Except, of course, sometimes the spectral caiman get....hungry.

To play, start by rolling 1d10 and posting your kin's reaction to being a bird with the following form:

Code: Select all

HERE IS WHERE I BEGIN!!
Participating Kin:
After that, matching your result to the prompt below. Edit your post to include your response to the prompt and add the tickets rolled to your tally.
Spoiler
1. Deep in the pond are some delicious flowers. You decide, instead, to stick to a small pitiful one at its edge. 1 ticket
2. As you venture deeper, a caiman snaps after your tail; you're only just barely able to taste the nectar of a flower. 1 ticket
3. Here the tall reads obscure your movements, and let you steal a quick snack. 2 tickets
4. Dipping and diving you dodge to steal small sips from three or four flowers before retreating. 2 tickets
5. Covered in mud, your brilliant colors are muted, and you can sneak in to drink from a flower. 3 tickets
6. You watch another hummingbird be devoured, and eat while the caiman is satiated. 3 tickets
7. Two caiman are fighting. You duck between them to feast while they're distracted. 3 tickets
8. The top of one flower has come loose, and you're able to catch it in your talons to devour at your leisure. 4 tickets
9. There's a full plant sprouted on a caiman's back. You ride it, eating, for some time. 5 tickets
10: One of the caiman has decided they're too hungry to keep you safe. Its teeth close around you and the world goes dark; you wake back up in your own body. Lose half of your tickets (round up) and stop rolling. Post the form from the first post alongside your total ticket tally. NOTE: If you have 5 or fewer tickets, ignore this, pull free of the caiman at the last second, and keep rolling!
After this, continue to make new posts while rolling 1d10 as many times as you like. You're also welcome to stop rolling at any point, to avoid hitting that 10, which will end your game! Once you can no longer roll anymore or decide you don't want to roll anymore, please post the following:

Code: Select all

HERE IS WHERE I STOP!
Preference List:
Ticket Total: Remember to divide your total by 2 if you rolled a 10!
You can enter this contest once. We may also award bonus tickets for entries that include RP with their rolls.
This contest ends on Dec 4th at 11:59 PM EST.

He had teeny, tiny little legs and a delicate beak that, quite frankly, he was a little afraid would break off at the slightest disturbance to it, and small, buzzy wings that were going fast enough to make him dizzy. Sleepy Time flounced from one leaf to another, barely stopping, his newfound energy simultaneously thrilling and unnerving.

Maybe he could make it to the next flower without issue. Sleepy Time eyed the tall stems, started forward -

- and then veered sharply off course again as ghostly jaws snapped up, teeth flashing pale against the lush green grass. There was a tiny squawk, a fluster of feathers, and then the bird (thankfully a different one than himself, Sleepy Time thought) was gone.

Maybe he should just take a nap. That was also a good option.

He was not unused to these changes at this point- Story had, in the course of his life, been a mouse and once even a mushroom(he did not like that.) The ability to fly in a very zippy little body was new, however. He reveled in the feel of the breeze between his feathers as they shifted to give him optimal flight. Like breathing. The old buck felt young again, and he flitted about in a little dance to show how much he appreciated this strange gift.

And then he was on track: Get nectar. Keep this fragile body alive and moving.

Right, let's get to it.

Peacock had been exploring, always curious to find new places and find out about them... And perhaps find new folk to show off her pretty self to, flash her tail, and flirt her lashes at them. When she saw this pond, she was fascinated and headed towards it. The sudden experience of turning into a bird had her attempting to shriek in surprise... And instead found herself hovering about making high pitched PEEPS of pure indignation.

As she was trying to calm down, she spotted a caiman with a delightfully full plant on it, including some lovely flowers that looked just the right shape for her brand new beak. She fluttered down and landed, beginning to eat to calm herself as she considered the situation.

Frostbitten was imensely confused. This had to be a bad dream, right? She lifted a wing and pecked at herself. Ouch... Nope? Not a dream? Or if it was, it was a very intense one. She looked around at her new environment to see caiman and other hummingbirds left and right.

She felt a moment of relief, seeing that she wasn't alone. That was until she saw another hummingbird getting quickly snapped between the jaws of one of the caiman. Frostbitten's eyes widened, now looking panicked and keeping her eyes on the rest of the caiman.

After she felt she had taken enough, she lifted off and considered the situation. She started flying across the area, trying to stay above the caimans for safety... They seemed to be ignoring her, so far, but she was ever so tiny in comparison to their large mouths and sharp teeth, so she did NOT want to take too great of a risk.

She was considering another spot to land, when a new flower came loose and she snagged it out of the air. She managed to find a spot on a small stick and got to work, enjoying the new snack, soft pleased peeps escaping her.

Having finished the flower, she dived down, heading towards the center, thinking she had been doing well so far. She managed to get what she thought was a decent ways towards a flower, her beak sliding in, when she noticed a caiman LUNGING up towards her. She managed to dart upwards in time, such that only the lips of the caiman even brushed the tip of her tail, but it was, to her, a terribly close call... And she hadn't even managed to get a proper taste!

1. Deep in the pond are some delicious flowers. You decide, instead, to stick to a small pitiful one at its edge. 1 ticket
Frostbitten watched the other hummingbirds working with the caiman to get through and to some flowers littered through the area. She looked interested at the flowers, finding a caiman to work with and get around. She spotted a pond with yummy looking flowers, but the sight of hummingbirdless caiman scared her, so she stayed near the edge and sipped from a flower there.

Frostbitten started getting the hang of her new wings, making her way through the terrain and getting small sips from different flowers, returning to her caiman after each dip.

7. Two caiman are fighting. You duck between them to feast while they're distracted. 3 tickets
Frostbitten kept her eyes peeled for more flowers to sip from when she saw two caiman at war. She didn't see any other hummingbirds nearby, so they must have fallen prey to their hungry helpers. She took the chance, dipping away from her own caiman and stealing a couple sips, returning back to her caiman once more.

Even if she wanted to, Air wouldn't have been able to keep still. She was flying. Okay, maybe she wasn't soaring through the skies, high above the clouds. And sure, she wasn't a giant eagle or a majestic crane. She was small but her wings moved so quickly they were near impossible to see. Though the flowers kept her interest for a time, her gaze would always drift over to the spectral caimans.

Air would never declare herself an expert on spectrals of course, but she had more than most and she had never heard of or seen a spectral caiman. She was enamoured but she drifted a little too close for comfort and almost ended up caiman food. Luckily, she managed to slip free at the last second, earning only a bent feather.
