Dusk Wildflowers
The foal, having discovered the edge of the swamp and the plains just beyond quite by accident, had just spent the better part of the day darting through trees and jumping over roots, sprinting out of the edge of the forest into a field of wildflowers rustling in the winds of the plains, rolling and diving through those before quickly returning to repeat the process. Having quite worn herself out, the young doe wandered over to a nice cool spot between the roots of a great tree, and plopped herself down. Still facing out toward the flowers, she nestled her head over her hooves and watched as they continued to sway gently in the breeze. She'd seen flowers before, obviously, even large fields of them, but this felt different somehow. The smell, perhaps? Lulled by the rustling of the leaves and flowers, the foal found herself dozing lightly, nose filled with the scent of the forest, and eyes filled with the prolific colors of the wildflowers before her.
Eventually, she awoke, the sun having just set over the horizon, leaving the dusk sky a deep purple. Blinking, but still sleepy, the doe looked around, feeling a heavy breeze push the scent of the plains grasses and flowers into her nose. The smells of the swamp and plain mingled together and she sneezed, shaking her head and shifted a bit before nestling back down. Her eyes were beginning to adjust, and the colors of the flowers were becoming visible again, though only barely. Squinting in an attempt to see them better, the kimeti was having little luck. On the verge of giving up and simply going back to sleep, the doe found the fields before her awash with light as the moon rose overhead, the vibrant colors before her appearing to almost sparkle as the wind swept through the flowers, causing them to dart in and out of shadow. Mouth agape, the doe stared out over the field as the Dusk Wildflowers danced before her.
