Oh oh oh! Sunny wondered what would come out of the stump! She was prancing in excitement and this only doubled when an acorn popped out. She gave a happy little dance, bent down to pick it up when it rolled over to reveal a face...

...

...

...

Sunny squealed. Not in horror but in delight. Here is the proof she needed that kin could have come from trees in a previous life.

8. You feed the Stump your insecurities.

Death hesitantly walked up and looked into the stump, becoming transfixed with the white eyes staring up at him. It whispers in his head "Feed meeeee..."

Death's eyes clouded over. Insecurities, which one did it want? Which one would fill the stump and satisfy it? He searched his heart, eyes turned inward. No, no, no, none of these would suffice.

Ah yes, that one. The one he kept in the deepest, darkest corner of his soul.

He knew that Life was his love and his other half. He had no doubt about the depth of her love and undying devotion. But honestly, honestly, he sometimes felt jealous when she was away with others. She couldn't fight her nature, it would be a insult to the Motherfather who entrusted her with that purpose. But still..but still...

Death offered these feelings of inadequacy and jealousy to the stump.

The stump greedily slurped up the feelings, making loud, wet noises of satisfaction as it did so.

Worlds walked curiously up to the stump. They'd never met the doe that'd greeted them, never been to this festival before, but they held their tongue about both, holding the pebble carefully between their teeth. Correcting the doe wasn't interesting enough to take away from the stump that was supposed to give prizes. Now that was interesting.

She dropped the pebble inside and waited eagerly, long tail swaying...

"What's that?" A buzzing? She frowned, leaning closer to peer inside.

Then screamed as a swarm of bees erupted from within, flying right up into her face. Worlds stumbled back hastily, head shaking and hair whipping. She didn't stop to ask why, she just ran.

Prompt Response: A stump that gives prizes? Maybe. It wasn't like strange things didn't happen in the swamp with regular frequency. It hadn't been that long since the light had disappeared, and the last market was a blend of both summer and winter days.

So Brother Shark brought a pebble forward and dropped it in, ears perked and glowing eyes trained on the dark hollow.

There was a scratching sound, and then Brother Shark stepped back quickly as a family of mouse rushed free of the stump and raced for the tree line.

"What kind of prize is that?"

12. An angry family of mice scamper from the Stump.

Prompt Response: Their booth with Death was doing well and Born couldn't be more thrilled about it. In fact, they'd scarcely stepped away from it, and after a little gentle insistence from Death, Born had stepped away with Haven to get themself a bite to eat and a drink, and to pay a couple of the other booths a little visit. They'd promised they wouldn't be long and that they'd avoid any mazes, they didn't want the buck to worry over them, but they so loved a festival and they couldn't not take a look around.

A stump that gave prizes was worth a visit, and Born was practically dancing on their hooves as they approached, with Haven's help, the stump.

A stump.

Not the right stump.

The sanddog whined after the pebble had disappeared into the hollow, backing away from the zikwa who was, unbeknownst to them[/i] a startling shade of shadowy black. They couldn't feel it, but they could feel something. Something off. It laid their ears back, had them shuffling where they stood nervously.

And they could feel it when something was taken from them. Got flickers of memory and feeling before they were siphoned away. A time when they were younger, when they were alone and wandering. A time when they'd gotten themself lost in a cave of sorts, hopelessly lost, and then somehow, miraculously, managed to find their way out again.

It was there...and then it wasn't.
9. You feed the Stump an accomplishment you're proud of.

You receive a stick wrapped in webbing. Feathers stick to it. A fashionable headpiece perhaps?
Waves Under The Moon took up the stick. What in the world? Is this a magic wand? He closed his eyes, thinking deeply about the thing he wanted most, the deepest wish in his heart. After focusing and grounding himself in the wish, he shook his head, trying to "wave" the wand around. When he was done, he slowly opened one eye, then the other.

No one was there. He sighed, disappointed. He carefully laid the stick on the ground near the stump. Maybe someone else could use it.

15. You feed the Stump your greatest regret.
Totem approached the stump, not really knowing what was going on. She could tell something felt ... off. The air felt cold and spiky, but not in a winter way. Almost the way the path between obelisks felt, but that wasn't right either. Totem felt like something integral to her being had been detached-- And then she heard it.

"I'm so hungryyyy-"

Best Friend let out a deep, terrifying, warning growl. Totem felt the hair along the back of her neck raise on end and her spine went to ice.

"Wha- What do I feed you?"

She knew that was probably the stupidest thing she could say to an unidentified something next to her, but something about the voice had been so familiar. Like what she heard when she was the one speaking.

Wait.

Was she talking to herself??

"Feed me our regret? Please???"

Our.

Whatever this was WAS Totem. She instinctively pulled away from the voice but she had a feeling that she'd never be left alone if she didn't give it what it wanted.
Totem faced Thunder with determination and rage shaking her tiny frame. Her throat hurt from hours of pleading and crying- She didn't even want that much. She just wanted to go to the Festival of Plenty! She'd heard the rest of the troupe talking about it and it sounded like so much fun, but Thunder wasn't going to go and had given Totem a definitive "absolutely not" to the young acha going on her own.

Thunder feared that Totem was too young, and had no way of moving around safely without another kin to give her directions and urge her along the correct path. Totem was convinced that she'd never know what she was capable of doing without trying. She screamed and raged about the 'too young' the most. She was practically an adult!! She was fully grown. Her mother was just being unfair and controlling.

Thunder sadly shook her head and said it again- "I'm sorry, my love. The answer is no. One day you'll understand why this is a bad idea."
The older kimeti took a step around Totem, moving to press her forehead to Totem's.

The kid moved away and in the coldest voice she could summon Totem said softly, so that only Thunder could hear it- "I hate you so much. I wish you weren't my mother."
Totem took a staggering breath in as the memory hit her. She knew Thunder had caved, taking her daughter to the festival, but Totem also knew that when they'd gotten back home Thunder had cried herself to sleep.

Looking back on it now with everything she'd been through, especially recently, she could see that Thunder had been right. Totem would not have been safe going off on her own that night.

"Is that what you wanted?"

"Yesss, thank you. So good."

Totem shook her head and cried softly. Was it? Was it good?

Was anything?

She felt even more now like something vital had been taken from her ... She needed to go find her mom.

Prompt Response: Matter of Fact was so excited to see the stump here. The charred earth around it was a curiosity as was the strange shifty weirdness of the acha prancing around it but that was less of a concern. She was just excited to see THE STUMP! It had given her the WEIRDEST Acorn a few years back and she just loved that thing. LOVED IT. Matter of Fact couldn't run fast enough to drop another pebble into the cursed slot, her eyes bright with excitement as she watched for what might roll out of the bottom of it. OH please be another friend!

Hmm not a friend. A feather. Part of a future friend? She would be back for more that was certain!

1. A flower falls out of the Stump. It's a bit decayed - but it's still pretty!
Image
Hidden Beauty had decided to make her way over to the Stump that everyone seemed to talk about, mostly with equal parts horror and glee. She didn't understand what the issue was. So what if you ended up startling some bees that were hidden in it sometimes. That happened to Hidden Beauty a lot with her rose bushes and other bushes. Bees happened. Just ask her pet humblebee, Bee Mine. At least Bee Mine was quiet, unlike that dang loud bird that had started following her everywhere since she had traveled to the caves a while back with a big group to find an obelisk. She sighed as she heard it mockingly repeat the Acha's words "Everything is FINE!"

Hidden Beauty approached the Acha and said "Sorry, I can't really control Loud... I'm sure it isn't trying to mock you. Here, let me put a pebble into your stump, I can't wait to see what I get!" She carefully grabbed one of her pebbles out of the bag of woven vines she kept tied in place that held some of her precious items. She then went up to the stump and dropped in into the top. She looked in anticipation as a flower fell out. It's a bit, well, done for but at least it's a pretty flower and if she takes care of it right, she could get it to dry and stay pretty. "Ohh wonderful! I do so love flowers, especially roses." Hidden Beauty confided in the doe. She carefully picked it up and got it into the bag of vines. "Everything is FINE!" shouted It's Too Loud once again. "Yes, everything is fine, you buzzard! Go somewhere else and bug some other kin why don't you!" Hidden Beauty rolled her eyes at the annoying bird. She wished she hadn't ever come back from the caves with it. "Say, I couldn't interest you in spending some quality time with this here bird, could I?" she asked, hope making her voice rise at the end of the question as she looked on at the Acha. In her head, all she could think was 'please, please, please say yes.'

When she got no response from the doe, who seemed to just be staring at the stump, Hidden Beauty sighed again. She would never get rid of the creature it seemed, or even distract it. It was stuck to her, like that sticky substance that came out of some trees when they'd been scratched or kicked too hard and the outer wood came off. 'Oh well, it was worth the try..' Hidden Beauty thought before turning away with the kin caller and the humblebee. As they left the area, the kin caller once again started repeating the doe, "Everything is FINE! Everything is FINE!" Hidden Beauty whipped her head up to glare at the kin caller, "Would you stop that, you're embarrassing me!" She huffed out before moving away at a fast pace, trying to quickly leave the area with her Stump flower and the two pets. She needed to get home before the kin caller got worse...

Somehow, she manages to not immediately hurl, and with a pointed grin that ABSOLUTELY does not look joyful, she trots rapidly out of the booth.
