Title: Leaf-Rustle
Post by: phoe on May 18, 2019, 08:11:31 PM
Moody, unstable, fickle Leaf-rustle is in fact four seperate kin: she changes natures with the seasons, sliding easily from one persona to another. It is questionable whether this is out of choice or because of necessity. She is flighty and flirtatious in the spring, adventurous and stalwart in the summer, pensive and thin in the fall, and completely closed off and alien in the winter.

Title: Patience
Post by: phoe on May 18, 2019, 08:30:38 PM
Patience's claim to fame is his brilliantly-colored coat; it may be the best and most appealing thing about him. He can usually be found lazing about in the northern reaches of the swamp, swimming or eating apples and doing nothing else with his day. He is waiting -- and may wait forever -- for the perfect buck to come along and sweep him off of his feet.

Title: Mudsplatter | "Stain"
Post by: phoe on May 18, 2019, 08:32:19 PM

Mudsplatter is the first buck to lend a helping hand, venture into the dark cave, or roust the caiman out from underneath a mangrove. He does this usually without speaking, preferring to communicate by nods and shrugs, and the occasional 'yes' or 'no' rumbled in his deep voice. Mudsplatter is not the brightest buck in the swamp, but he is one of the most genuine, and the most honest, if only because he is too transparent to launch any scheme that requires subtlety or ulterior motives.

Title: Flower-eater
Post by: phoe on May 18, 2019, 09:23:57 PM
The depth of Petal's personality is about as thin as the petals she eats: outgoing and a bit of a hedonist, Flower-eater is pretty but a little round through the flanks and hips, outgoing but shallow, and intelligent but only in a few subjects. She can name most of the flowers in the swamp and especially those that are good to eat, but subjects which do not interest her she must admit only meager knowledge in; her subjects of choice are food and bucks, and in that order.

Title: Twilight
Post by: phoe on May 18, 2019, 09:25:24 PM
Twilight is extremely intelligent and extremely curious, and is nearly ruthless in her drive to attain knowledge. Risks that might stop other kimeti are ignored as long as the outcome is something new to learn or -- especially -- something that nobody else has found or discovered. If there is something to be found in the swamp, hinted at only in rumor or in stories told on moonless nights, Twilight will make it her business to find the bottom of it. She is an apt judge of character, except of her own. She might know better about the dangers of blind risk-taking if she stopped to think about it.

Title: Wood Spider
Post by: phoe on May 18, 2019, 09:32:02 PM
pre-ascension form (

Gentle, wise, and intelligent, the petite Wood Spider is an explorer and a collector of charms. She has extensive knowledge of the different medicinal and mystical properties of varied bones, herbs, and flowers, and combines them to lend kimeti their best aspects.

She was widely regarded as a bit of a loon, friendly and good-natured but maybe a bit daft or gullible, until one day she had a dream and woke up changed, ascended. Now she still wanders the swamp bestowing her charms and gifts upon those she deems needful or worthy. Wood Spider tends to bless mothers for fertility, strength, and compassion. She will not bless mushroom-influenced clutches.

Title: Longstride
Post by: phoe on May 18, 2019, 09:43:47 PM
pre-ascension form (

Longstride, at his core, is a survivalist and an unabashed spinner of tales, mostly featuring himself (though grounded in truth). Pulled away to travel unknown lands by something core to his very being, Longstride, blessed by the Motherfather, is the only kin who is unaffected by the Ache. In his eaglehound shape, sleek and leanly muscular like his stag form, he has traveled all the known lands, and led the first expedition to find the Obelisks.

He has managed to overcome the last obstacle to his wandering nature and has attained the alternate form of a gryphon (; he can wear this in addition to his eaglehound shape.

But recently he has begun to drop from the public sphere. No longer found in the Tidewalker lands, who knows what calls him now...

Longstride tends to bless for strength and endurance. He will not bless mushroom-influenced breedings.

Title: Sparrowhawk
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 10:48:53 PM
The tomboyish Sparrowhawk is an immensely practical doe with an odd playful streak. She adores practical jokes, but does not indulge in them often, because too much of it usually drives people away. She is usually somewhat solitary, more than capable of existing in the swamp on her own.
Title: Lizardskin
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 10:49:59 PM
Lizardskin is cold and aloof most of the time, and mean and completely emotionless at his worst. He is also lazy and lethargic, stirring himself only for two things: to dine on his favorite meal of brightly-colored, mildly poisonous frogs (which are mildly hallucinogenic), or to spend time with his sister, Love is a Labor, to whom he is .. unnervingly close. Perhaps a bit too close.

Title: Truth Unveiled
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 10:53:41 PM
Questioning and abrupt, uptight and brutally honest, but with a secret, gooey center. Truth Unveiled was not so sure of the Motherfather's existance and was pretty vocal about it until his mother awakened into a Legendary. Now he seeks answers from any Legendary he can find.

Title: Hopeless
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 10:55:28 PM
Hopeless is a well-meaning, good-natured buck who is possessed of a seriously self-deprecating sense of humor. If words coming from Hopeless's mouth are to be believed, he will never amount to anything and will go through life perpetually alone; these sound like dire truths indeed, until one catches the amused gleam in his eye, and the wry little quirk of his lips. Hopeless never gives up, despite his name.

If anyone happens to catch him at it, he is also an excellent dancer, and his broad-shouldered, lean frame is perfectly suited to it. Because of his general temperament, however, no one has ever been allowed to watch him dance.

Title: Brambleheart
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 10:56:23 PM
Shy, simple, affectionate, and terrified of small furry animals.
Title: Eclipse
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 10:57:48 PM
Were Eclipse to exist in our world, he would have lived in Victorian England, as a poet dying of consumption. Vain, emotional, flashy and intelligent, Eclipse is a poet, always looking for the best words or the most perfect turn of phrase. He will recite his poetry to anyone who listens; unfortunately, most of his poetry is of a particularly lovelorn bent. Eclipse is one of those who has loved and lost -- presumably, his lover disappeared into the swamp one night, never to return. The reality is perhaps much more dire (and may involve a hungry caiman).

However, this has not prevented Eclipse from having a series of flings to mend his once-broken heart, and he has left a string of children and grandchildren behind him. The does need only listen to his poetry and appear interested, and he is hooked.

Title: Breaking Dawn
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 10:59:02 PM
Free spirited, assertive, and independent.

Title: Featherfall
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:02:10 PM
Featherfall is kind of morbid. She enjoys finding corpses and bones, likes to research how long it takes for things to rot, and is focused on these things to the point of being a little socially inept. She, her daughter Water Runs Red, and a few other kimeti she's brought to her cause live in a huge cave system in the swamp. Featherfall doesn't ask or want for much -- but the one thing she DOES want, though, is to mate -- repeatedly -- with bucks with skeleton markings, to see how that passes down.
Title: Quicksand
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:03:51 PM
Quicksand would be a Tidewalker if she ever made it to the beach -- but, instead, she leads kin [usually young ones] on adventures in the swamp: agility training, climbing, and obstacle courses she builds herself.

Title: Windjammer
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:05:31 PM
Windjammer was one of the first wave of kiokote to the swamp.

The youngest daughter of a successful stallion, she has tried very hard to be a diplomat and a successful people-person like her father, but she has an anxious and frenetic personality which sometimes undermines her attempts.

Title: Beetleshell
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:07:59 PM
As close to truly nocturnal as a kimeti ever gets, Beetleshell sleeps in a large nest under a mangrove tree during the day. At night, she begins her nightly task of finding insects, which she transplants closer to her home. Around Beetleshell's nest is a haphazard garden of undergrowth, messily arranged to provide homes for the insects. Her knowledge of the bugs of the swamp is vast, clinical and almost encyclopedic.

She probably doesn't have time for you, but she'll answer your questions.

Title: Dovetail
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:10:02 PM
Ethereal, shy, and innocent, Dovetail is a kind-hearted but almost cripplingly shy animal lover. The trick to making friends with this doe is to make friends with her animals first.

Title: Bitter Harvest
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:10:51 PM
He dreamed of his own death before ever taking a breath and woke up only to be immediately swarmed by the beetles of his mother's garden. As a foal, he wandered for days blind, weak, and nearly dead from insect stings: as a result, he wasn't entirely sure whether he was alive or dead for a long time. Underneath his bright coat, his skin is riddled with thousands of scars from bug bites and stings. Bitter Harvest is rather mad and not entirely tethered to reality, staggering around the swamp and constantly pondering his own mortality; as such, he has very few qualms about inflicting pain on others, or even eating carrion.

Title: Water Runs Red
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:13:09 PM
She knows a great deal about death and how best to preserve bones -- how to slough off skin and tissue from bones, how best to dry them, and how to identify a bone just by looking at it. She wishes that she did not have such strange knowledge, since it makes conversation awkward, but hopes it will come in some use someday. Until then, Bloodied keeps her head down and works industriously, never once allowing a complaint to pass her lips.

Title: Serenade of Water
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:14:04 PM
Flow would have been born a fish if she'd had a say in things. Though born during one of the driest summers known to Matope, her underwater dream was full of cool water, moist sand and brilliantly-colored fish. Her favorite places in the swamp are those with an abundance of water, whether clear (her favorite) or choked with duckweed. On hot days she's up to her nose in it, and during rainstorms she's seeking the places with few trees to feel the downpour beat on her back. She's too active to let her love of water manifest as a longing if she can't find any; she simply roams around the swamp finding puddles and pools and eating the fish or shellfish she finds within them. On especially dry days and in the dry season, she carries around a small, smooth river-rock in her mouth, sucking on it to taste the waters it came from.
Title: Flint
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:15:03 PM
Prone to brooding, handsome Flint has an excess of sharp words and quick, angry outbursts. He is the latest watch taken on the beach; it is common to find him standing with his hooves just at the tideline, watching the surf roll in, frowning at the horizon. Woe betide anyone who asks Flint what's wrong in those times; he is just as apt to lash out with hooves and teeth as a cutting remark designed to hurt. He's not ALL bad -- just mostly awful. Since growing up and leaving the beach he has mellowed, but no one does anger quite like Flint.

Title: Thunderstruck
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:16:47 PM
Thunderstruck denies herself what few creature comforts are to be had on the beach in search of inner peace and balance. Despite her lean frame, seemingly too petite and delicate to put in hard work, Thunderstruck is a surprisingly strong sort.

Title: Walks Without Rhythm
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:19:56 PM
pre-ascension form (

Stern, authoritative and dour Walks Without Rhythm was always hard to find: since ascending to Legendary, he has become even more of a hermit. Despite that, he is an extremely capable hunter and survivalist, and if his ribs show and his coat is a little thin, and his hooves cracked ... it is made up for by the keen intelligence in his blue-on-blue eyes. He is a bit more cautious and decisive than swamp-born kimeti, more apt to strike first and ask questions later. Wanderers onto his territory are offered what meager hospitality he can offer, and then shown back out nearly as soon as they've caught their breath. He never explains why, and very few kin have ever managed to crack his outer shell.

Not that anyone has come to him for a blessing, but Slide will not bless mushroom-influenced clutches.

Title: Blindsight
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:21:17 PM
A nearly-blind doe who is frustrated with her inability to see. Prefers the ladies.

Title: Stormbreaker
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:21:52 PM
A half-kimeti kiokote who is the arbiter of family disputes while they search for their missing kimeti parent.

Title: Catching Fire
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:23:20 PM
Catching Fire prances about the swamp in something of a high gear: he is constantly moving, and something of a contact juggler, bouncing river-rocks or pebbles off of his nose to then kick it with his hind hooves, batting it off of his tail -- he is always in motion, and frenetic motion at that. An unkind word has never passed his lips -- with that being said, he is not known to have entirely sane notions, either. Catching Fire is sweet, friendly, and always willing to lend a hand, a story, or a song, but he may be more than a little daft.

Title: Chokecherry
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:24:14 PM
A handsome ne'er-do-well, a flirt, a playtoy -- and a bit of an idiot, Chokecherry has no conception of how much is too much and will happily gorge himself on anything (sex, food, sleep) until it's too late. More than once he has skirted death because of it. He fails to see how anything can harm him. He never gives up.

He will also happily defend his siblings and family to the death. If anyone has a differing opinion of them he is pleased to simply run his point into the ground until they give up.
Title: Suffering
Post by: phoe on May 28, 2019, 11:25:06 PM
Something of an empath, fragile Suffering is unreasonably affected by the emotions of others. When alone, he is perfectly lucid; when other kimeti intrude upon him, even with the best of intentions, Suffering shifts: he becomes driven to extremes, either laughing crazily or sunk down into a killing rage. Either of these things can happen within moments. He can't always help it. When he finds someone relatively stable he tends to latch onto them and not let go, regardless of whether or not he is actually welcome.
Title: Crooked Grin
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:38:11 PM
He presents nothing but good humor and wry amusement to the world. Even if he didn't, he's a consummate actor. He is also extremely lucky, and though he expects that luck to falter (because wouldn't that be funny?), it never does. Because of this unrelenting luck, he's extremely superstitious. He won't cross under mangrove roots and avoids black owlcats, for example.

With this luck in mind, he has committed himself to the life of a roving gentleman: a charmer, quick to flash a wry smile and tell an amusing story. He's also something of a trickster, though his tricks aren't usually malicious. They're just designed to seek attention.
Title: Wintershadow
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:41:35 PM

shadows in winter
stretch out their long arms, raking
cold claws in the earth

Wintershadow's secret claim to fame is his singing voice. His cautious, deliberate nature doesn't find him singing all that often, but most kimeti are surprised by his talent. He has a brilliant, clear tenor voice that is the envy of any songbird in the swamp.

Shadow is quiet but outgoing, with a no-nonsense nature. He's asexual, but homoromantic, and prefers bucks who are tall, dark, and handsome.

Good at delegation, he is the lead Caretaker for the Vale.

(S) Deathcap's Magic Mushrooms ( - 803 words

Title: Spread Feathers
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:42:31 PM
Spread Feathers was the leader of a rather large harem -- until the Flood happened. Swept off his feet (quite literally) and washed into the swamp, he is now trying to reconcile himself to a new way of life. He can be damningly charismatic, but that is tempered with a very wide streak of misogyny that he can't help. His harem was the best and the happiest, because they wanted for nothing -- he was in absolute control. After all, who would think to leave those decisions to a doe?

He suffers from crippling OCD and must keep himself clean all the time. This, combined with his rampant misogyny, makes him a nasty sort for all but a few other types.
Title: Chrysalis
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:43:16 PM
An odd sort of hypocrite: Chrysalis is addicted to dreamgrass while simultaneously working without end to cure his uncle Bitter Harvest's insanity through medicine. He is vastly intelligent, but often too busy with his trials to do more than snark and shun others.
Title: Hailstorm
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:44:06 PM
Hailstorm is in an odd relationship with her brother, Frostbite: the two kimeti stalk through the swamp in their shared bad mood, usually taking it out on whoever is unlucky enough to cross their path. On their own, they are bad -- together, they are worse. It's questionable whether they even like each other, though Hailstorm does do her best to please her brother, even when he does not immediately reciprocate.

It will be interesting to see what becomes of the doe if her brother is not around to inflict his personality on her.

Title: Brightest Day
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:44:41 PM
Loyal, brave and ambitious.
Title: Emberdance
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:45:13 PM
Spiritual and wise, but weirdly evasive, Emberdance is the swamp's equivalent of a creepy old voodoo priest. In truth, his rituals and performances to appease the swamp are largely ridiculous farce, but he does know much about the Motherfather, the turn of the seasons, and how to influence others.
Title: Grovekeeper
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:45:42 PM
The mysterious Grovekeeper -- no one is quite sure whether that is a name or a title -- lives in the lush Northern reaches of the swamp, tending a small island in the middle of one of the wide, shallow rivers of the region. The island is ringed around by apple trees which he carefully tends. No one even knows how old he is; perhaps he has tended his small island since the beginning of the swamp. Kimeti have been known to approach Grovekeeper with questions: which berries are good to eat, when to best store herbs for the winter, or how to avoid wolves or caiman. He seems to pass his days alone, connected to some mystical source of knowledge or energy that apparently comes from the small island.
Title: Many Voices
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:47:02 PM
The authoritative older sister of the Borderwalkers tribe, Many Voices has taken it upon herself -- and herself alone -- to ensure the continued existence of her family and way of life. She is a stalwart protector of her siblings and utterly loyal to her family, and she has a ruthless streak only barely tempered.

But such things are hard to undertake alone, especially when you are young and still questioning your own path in life. Lately it seems like Many Voices has begun to split into more than one person: the businesslike, maternal side of her, and the side of her that is driven to whatever extremes necessary to make sure she and her family succeed and survive.
Title: Moonfire
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:47:45 PM
Not often seen during daylight hours, some would call Moonfire lazy, or just odd; in point of fact, she is largely nocturnal, and explores the dreamworld when she sleeps. She has journeyed farther in her dreams than she has in waking life, keeping to the northern reaches of the swamp where the apples are sweet and the water plentiful.

Moonfire is fearless and adventurous, though perhaps not adventurous in the sense of the world that we know. While hard to find, she is easy to approach, and makes friends easily.

Title: Ends-the-Chase
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:49:29 PM
He is a hunter and tracker, usually always alone, relying on hooves and teeth to kill his prey. His voice is rough and hoarse, and he doesn't speak much, though he tends to talk down to most kin he meets and can be rather arrogant and surly.

Chase is far more athletic than most kimeti, possessed of great speed and endurance; his mother was a kiokote.

Title: Above It All
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:50:40 PM
Flighty, out there, and a little stuck up. Pretends she's not as absolutely clueless as she is, but is too proud to ask for help, and ends up coming off dismissive and snotty.

Title: Broken Heart
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:51:26 PM
Eminently trustworthy and seemingly chaste, her heart has never been broken, but she'll help you pick up the pieces of yours. Broken Heart makes it her business to provide comfort and support to the brokenhearted of the swamp ... particularly the ladies. As a true diplomat, however, she does not discriminate -- at least not outwardly.
Title: Speaks Once
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:53:00 PM
This totoma came by her name late in life, having seemed perfectly content with being Nameless. Some wondered at her silence and lack of ambition. Others wondered if the Nameless totoma was mute or slow. But instead, it seemed that she was saving herself up for one opportune moment -- and it came on the journey to the swamp, when others, tired from the journey, nearly blundered unknowingly into a river full of caiman.

The only thing Speaks Once has been known to say out loud is "stop," but one word saved more than one life.
Title: Raven's Wing
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:53:36 PM
Raven's Wing seems to take after her father: possessed of lofty ideas, pining for an unknown, and hopeful that some strong stalwart someone will come along to change her life. But unlike Eclipse's honestly overemotional nature, there is something a touch reserved about Raven's Wing, a secret she harbors either real or imagined. She likes to think that it only adds to her mysterious allure, as she steals shy glances from behind her hair (her biggest vanity), but she is rather self-absorbed. A curious sort.

Her secret, though she does not know it, is that she barely has emotions at all.
Title: Under My Skin
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:54:14 PM
The athletic Under My Skin is one of Meets-the-Sea's children by a roving kiokote; like her athletically-inclined father, she is unable to stop her itchy feet from carrying her hither and yon, and her attention span is equally short. She is propelled ever forward by a need to always be doing something. As such, she is a capable, swift and efficient messenger between the desert cave in the borderlands and the swamp, willing to put in a strong shoulder or a swift hoof wherever needed.

She is cheery and friendly but easily hurt and easily distracted; the need to protect herself from being hurt usually manifests as an intense desire to throw herself into anything put in front of her. Under My Skin is a source of endless enthusiasm until something breaks that trend.
Title: Cove
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:55:47 PM
Obviously a half-breed between acha and kimeti (taller than an acha, thinner and sleeker than a kimeti), Cove grew up on the beach torn between being one thing and the other. Instead, he is always both, which is awkward: he is dainty of bone like an acha, but has glowing eyes like a kimeti; he is both low tide, exposing his true nature, and high tide, when all is hidden. He fancies himself a safe haven, a welcoming sort, but he is reserved and secretive when on his own.

Title: Jawbone
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:56:20 PM
A wolf in sheep's clothing: a very, very bad man.
Title: Bright Morning
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:57:05 PM
Every morning is a morning worth living to this doe; every day is a cause for rejoice. Bright Morning is a lover of people, of things, of the abstract; she is an idealist in the extreme. However -- all of her loves are short-term, at best. She is woefully unable to commit to anything. Some people have wondered if she has short-term memory loss problems, but in reality, Bright Morning cannot simply ever settle down. There is too much to see, to do, and too many people to meet. Unlike her introverted parents, Bright Morning seems to be nothing but distilled, concentrated extrovert.

She is the essence of FOMO.
Title: Terrible Purpose
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:57:38 PM
One can only wonder what the twins of the tribe, Terrible Purpose and his sister Fallen Moon, experienced while still in their sacs; with their mother having undergone the process of Ascension with the twins still unborn, it is rumored that Fate and his sister have knowledge that other kimeti do not. They seem to share the bond that connects all twins, but it is somehow different, strange; and if Fallen Moon denies that Fate sometimes stares out over the horizon, planning for the future ... well. Whose word is to be believed?
Title: Set Apart
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:58:57 PM
The delicate-seeming (but haughty and intelligent) Set Apart holds herself at one remove from the rest of the tribe, seemingly more interested in chronicling their progress (and her own) than much else. However, she has never once been known to let a complaint fall past her lips: her control over her body and mind is second only to Meets-the-Sea's.
Title: Firesong
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 09:59:24 PM
Firesong and his twin Sunsong are some of the newest members of the Tidewalkers, and among the most beautiful - if you believe any part of what the flamboyant, social Firesong has to tell you. While he is vain, he is not self-centered, and is always likely to lend the help anyone needs -- though he might just do it because it makes him look good as for any other reason.
Title: Water Dancer
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:00:15 PM
"What do we say to Death?" "Not today." Water Dancer is an agile dancer, all lean muscle and flashing eyes -- but he's also deadly with his hooves and horns. He is an acha who knows how to take care of himself, and has started to teach young foals and fillies how to do the same.

Title: Wrack
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:01:21 PM
Wrack was a stallion in charge of a middling sized herd of females on the plains, but by nights he was plagued with terrible nightmares of things he had never seen. How could a kiokote dream nearly every night about drowning? Water is not especially common on the plains, not so deep that a stallion could swim in it and never see the bottom.

So one night, instead of sleeping, Wrack set out to travel to the ocean. But since he had never left his homeland, and had not been seized by the Ache, he had no idea just how wide an area that was to travel. The ocean was a very long way away.

And something happened, on the way there -- .. and it seems that Wrack lost his memory, or himself, as if he was swept away in the depths again: on a blisteringly hot and humid day, a gaunt kiokote showed up on the Tidewalkers beach with a look of triumph on his face .. and then promptly collapsed into the sand.

Title: White Walker
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:02:02 PM
White Walker is mute and always seems a bit strange and detached. He hates hot weather and will sleep through the worst of it, or roam without stopping until he finds shade and cool. None have been able to get him to make any sort of sound, not even in pain.
Title: Heartstone
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:02:39 PM
Home is where the heart is, and none know it so well as Heartstone. Traveling the swamp with her father Wintershadow has taught her the valued side of communication and of love. Anyone she meets is shown hospitality and given all that Heartstone can offer. She puts roots down wherever she goes in hopes of creating a safe haven for herself, and for others.

Title: Stands-Tall
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:03:05 PM
Stands-tall is not only just tall and long-legged, a half-head again as tall as any of the rest of his fellows, but he is also the one to stand up for the downtrodden, the weak, and the small. He is a protector of the foals, which most stallions view as unseemly .. at least out of earshot, or kicking distance, of the spotted kiokote. He's also quite fast on those long legs -- as good for chasing down wayward little ones for as trampling others in the dust when a well-deserved trample is necessary.

He is also immeasurably patient, and all of his motions are long and slow and gentle. He prefers to stand on his back legs and eat the most tender leaves on the tops of the trees, watching the plains from his high vantage-point.
Title: Silverthroat
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:03:41 PM
Young Silverthroat is nearly a match for Wintershadow: she has a wonderful singing voice, if anyone would ever be allowed to hear it. She warbles and trills and sings for Shadow, and perhaps for Heartstone, but if anyone else stops to listen she is all trembling knees and lowered eyes, too shy to say anything, but secretly excited that she has listeners.
Title: Hear Me Roar
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:04:32 PM
ear Me Roar is arrogant, overmasculine, impulsive and outspoken, and easily hated -- at least upon first impression. Underneath his cultivated exterior, however, is a faithful spirit.
Title: Long Autumn
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:05:02 PM
The season of plenty won't last forever. It's time to put one foot in front of the other and prepare for the worst. Long Autumn is practical, stoic, and weathered - she'd get along very well with Bitterleaf. In Long Autumn's world, there are no wants, only needs.
Title: Shadowswift
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:05:41 PM
Spritely, petite and friendly, Shadowswift is a fairy-like doe who makes friends easily, unlike her cold mother.
Title: Murkwood
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:06:29 PM
As befits his name, Murkwood lives in a place full of fog, moss, cobwebs, and bats: a beautiful, if entirely treacherous, part of the swamp. His domain is beautiful, but unfortunately it is only so on the outside (much like the buck himself). He is prejudiced against totoma in particular and will not tolerate their presence. In the company of kimeti or the few beings he chooses to stay near, he is wise (if a bit dour) and regal (if too tightly wound). He can be quite sociable, but it's only done on his time and on his terms. However, he is loyal to his own children and wishes to protect them from harm and the nastiness of the outside world.

Title: Nature's Call
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:07:08 PM
ymph-like, friendly and ethereal, Nature's Call is a conservationist. Were she to exist in our world, she'd be a member of PETA.
Title: Wild Growth
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:08:04 PM
Wild Growth is has a knack for gardening -- well, he has a knack for plant growth of every kind, whether it's desired or not. Much of his time is spent ripping weeds out of carefully tended plots of land -- more than once he has blistered his tongue or split his lips from tearing up or spitting out ill-tasting weeds, or prickly weeds, or thorns. He does enjoy his work and he is reasonable about letting other kin buy his berries, fruits, and herbs with favors or tasks; however, if a kimeti decides to shirk his end of the bargain, Wild Growth's brutal honest streak will quickly set them (and their reputation) straight.
Title: Runs-Farthest
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:08:46 PM
Runs-farthest is a capable worker on the beach, if an overly thoughtful or considerate one. His unsure nature stems from one distinct problem: Runs-farthest is gay, and isn't quite sure how to break the news to his father, Longstride. With Longstride's reputation as a womanizer and his entire brood of kids, how will he react when he hears one of his kids doesn't like the female specimen? He is torn between making his own way on the beach and seeking guidance and being told where to go.

Title: Eel
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:09:37 PM
Aptly named, Eel is slippery and slithery, and overwhelmingly forgettable. It's hard to remember whether she shirked her duties or not; it's hard to remember whether she worked or slept, or whether she was even around on a given day. The doe uses this to her advantage to spend whatever free time she has in the shadow of her twin, Pike. Her brother's influence means that Eel's slipperiness extends to her morality, too; she sees nothing wrong with being just a bit closer to Pike than she ought to be, and no one has discovered that yet. It will be interesting to see what happens when Eel is forced out into the open.
Title: Sand Snake
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:10:23 PM
Sand Snake and her brother Red Viper are part of a "bad cop, worse cop" act. Sweet-spoken Sand Snake will lure unsuspecting, well-meaning kin in by feigning illness or injury, and Red Viper will then extort them for food, supplies, or information. Sand Snake sees no harm in doing this, because she herself does not actually harm anyone -- that much being left to her brother -- but she has a curiously uncalibrated sense of morality, for all of that. Perhaps she has inherited some of her mother's casual disregard for life. However, she has a strong bond to her siblings and is loyal to them to the end; she and Red Viper work hard to keep their sister, Little Island, from having to go to any of the lengths they themselves go to to survive.

Title: Swollen Joints
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:10:56 PM
Even as a filly, Swollen Joints moved with the gracelessness and caution of an elderly doe, her joints always tender and painful. She is one of those kimeti who came out of their sac feeling a thousand years old, and her hoarse, deadpan voice just helps the illusion along. She understands she is not capable of some of the more athletic pursuits, but so far that has not stopped her from merely continuing to plod along, moving ever forward.
Title: Pulse
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:12:41 PM
Pulse seems to shirk gender norms. They spend much of their time with the brood mothers, taking care of the small children (a typically feminine pastime) and they also don't seem to mind spending time with lovers of either gender.
Title: Sing Out
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:13:53 PM
It's always the quiet ones who surprise you. Sing Out is a good, good girl -- always polite, always dutiful, a hard worker who functions as a Scout for the Vale and thinks (perhaps wrongly) that she has to work extra-hard to make up for her father's angry, unable-to-be-tied-down nature. She usually quiet until she chooses to make an intelligent observation, doing so in a voice that immediately commands attention. She just doesn't like to command attention, though if it's for the good of the Vale, of course she will...

Title: Honey Trap
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:14:39 PM
Wood Spider's daughter (by an unknown father) is very much like her mother -- sweet, social, petite and pretty. Unlike Wood Spider, however, Honey Trap has a keen understanding of when to sever relationships when they turn from honey to vinegar, and knows how best to get people to do what she wants (which is often what she thinks they need). One can count on her to be caring and gracious, but also not to pull any punches -- she says what she wants when she wants, and always means it.

Title: Killing Frost
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:15:27 PM
Everything Frost touches, he ruins or breaks. This has left him a bit .. broken. He is quick to laugh (though it's a touch hysterical at times) and quick to anger, but always sees the worst in everything and grows increasingly defensive the more upset he gets.

Were Frost a human, he would likely have Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
Title: Lesson Learned
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:16:11 PM
The white doe turns and flees through the underbrush, heedless of branches that slap her, puddles she runs through, or where she is going. All she knows is the horrible thing that swirls around in her brain, the harsh words that cut her, flayed her, reduced her down to her essence.

No matter how long and hard she runs, she can never run from the truth.

It is a lesson learned ... just like any other.

She is not quite sure who the white doe in her dream is. She is certain that the white doe has just learned something of very, very vast importance. While smart herself, Lesson is left with a lingering haunted feeling that there is just something else she should have known...
Title: Vicious
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:17:27 PM
Vicious's MO is to live fast and die young. He's a bit of a bitch, ready with sharp-worded comments that are this close to being insults. He usually has a posse of hangers-on to back him up, but they're just decoration -- he's self-confident and he knows what he wants. He also knows, quite well, how good-looking he is, and isn't afraid to rub someone's nose in it. He is best friends with Gem, and the pair have a clutch together that they ... well, sometimes fail to parent. Is leader of an as-yet-unformed tribe of rockstar kiokote.
Title: Rising Flame
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:18:01 PM
Athletic, a bit of a jock, but dutiful and concerned with loyalty to his parents and ancestors -- especially his father, who is certifiably insane. Secretly loves to surround himself with beautiful things.
Title: Safeword
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:18:30 PM
Safeword could best be described as a mix between a counselor/therapist and a professional Dominant. He can provide kin with solutions to their problems in any way they need: whether by talking it out, examining their dreams and feelings, or providing relief in .. other .. ways. He is subtle and extremely concerned with both his own privacy and boundaries and those of others.
Title: Waited Too Long
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:19:09 PM
He'd be a bit of a hipster. Perpetually impatient.
Title: Coup
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:19:47 PM
Sometimes, the doe pretends her name is Coo, that she is supposed to be gentle and unassuming and compassionate. But she is not. One might say Coup is unfortunately named -- or perhaps her dream was unfortunate. It is not exactly comfortable for her to be constantly dreaming and planning of bigger, better ways to do things, to unseat and turn over the current way things are done.
Title: Summersong
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:20:25 PM
Any experience with Summersong is as brief and bright-burning as the hottest days of summer, and only remembered later in misty fragments, like a mirage.
Title: Match-maker
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:20:56 PM
Effusive, bubbly, brilliant with interpersonal dealings, gifted at reading people. Goes about the swamp setting up matches and dates as a hobby. Match-maker might be a title, rather than her name. She wears the cloak of iridescent feathers when meeting people for the first time, just to add that extra amount of zing!
Title: Not Alone
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:21:20 PM
He is his father's child and his right-hand man. A little overserious, responsible, prone to melancholy. Murkwood's love of fun and socializing passed on in part to his son, who prefers, given his name, to be around others. However, Not Alone's duties come first, and he is more apt to spend the day in quiet company with another, merely existing alongside them instead of speaking or interacting with them. This makes him come off as stern and standoffish, but is instead just his quiet, thoughtful, somewhat analytical nature coming out.
Title: Goldenwood
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:21:49 PM
A bit of a free spirit and a hippie, Goldenwood seems disconnected from this reality in that she apparently only sees the good in things. In the middle of a pouring rain, with her long curls muddied and plastered to her face and sides, Goldenwood would be able to say, with a pleased smile, that the plants will grow extra tall this season. Sometimes this specific mindset manifests to others as an unwillingness to face up to anything unpleasant or bad, and whether this is true or not, Goldenwood has never specified either way. That has not prevented those that are not so fond of her as pegging the doe as a child and a coward.
Title: All She Surveys
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:22:55 PM
The Deerqueen

Survey is self-contained, regal, and sort of otherworldly, moving with a stillness and an economy of movement. She has a soft, sweet voice that brooks no argument, and tends to always put herself in positions of leadership over others, almost without consciously meaning to. Wise but reserved, it is hard to get to know her, and she seems to like to keep it that way.

Title: Clean Break
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:23:22 PM
Not one to mince words or actions, Clean Break is an intensely focused, rather quiet doe who helps Featherfall and Water Runs Red in their bone enterprise. Clean Break seems uninterested in much beyond her current focus: she's not very good at socializing, and comes off as abrupt, distracted, and formal to the point of being rude. It is as though she relies on formulaic responses to get her through every day life.
Title: Wake Up
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:24:03 PM
She almost never sleeps. She is the wide-eyed, twitchy, snarly and disconnected bodyguard and muscle of Featherfall's bone-hunting enterprise. With her blood-shot eyes and her dragging hooves (or, sometimes, her twitchy and jittery limbs and wide grin), she realizes she is more than a little unnerving, and decides to embrace it.
Title: Shale
Post by: phoe on May 29, 2019, 10:24:36 PM
Shale is a practical sort, steadily putting one foot in front of the other. However, this practicality manifests into a sort of brittle hardness; he can be easily driven to lose his temper and snap, or else grow so brittle he might shatter. Being so close to his siblings and their differing personalities, this happens more often than he'd like. In between bouts of anger and irritation he is quite level-headed and restrained.
Title: Falterstep
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 10:58:52 PM
One step forward, two steps back. Whether Falterstep creates her problems for herself or whether she is just perpetually unlucky, her life is plagued with problems and strife. Unfortunately, she won't actually ask anyone for help, considering her secretive nature. This usually manifests in her being bitter, unhappy and short, or else torn by indecision and unable to make any sort of commitment.

Title: Swift Return
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 10:59:43 PM
Another member of Gem and Vicious' harem. She is flashy and social and a little more athletic than the general member of that tribe, but don't let that fool you -- Swift Return is an expert at perfectly-timed and utterly devastating comebacks.
Title: Rallies-Forth
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:00:22 PM
All of his young life he had stood by his leader, Serves-None; he had listened to him speak, and followed him without question. He had always been the very first to swear fealty, swear oaths, the first one into battle. It spoke to the youth's impetuous nature, his thirst for glory, to be seen and heard. He normally did it alone, but he was definitely not doing it unnoticed.

So it was that when a rival clan made their ascent into Serves-None's territory, the young totoma heard news and immediately plunged forward, down the cliffside, to meet their rivals. He did so with a roar, long hair streaming past his horns, and met the challenge head on ... backed by at least a dozen of his clan members, all arrayed behind him.

The rival totoma leader was overheard to say to Serves-None that if his young follower had not rallied forth to meet his challenge, they might have taken the territory with ease. As it was, he did not want to risk his own hide trying to match the energy of that young buck: "See how he rallies forth! He arms others with his own courage."

Rallies-Forth is a handsome buck; all the does want to be with him, and many bucks want to be him. He thirsts for glory and adventure enough to do any totoma proud, but this sometimes makes him come off as short-tempered and prickly. This prickliness sometimes rears its head even when dealing with the leader to which he has sworn his undying loyalty ... and, some argue, he was sworn even more than that.
Title: Silkspun
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:00:49 PM
Fragile. Pure as the driven snow. Dangerous.
Title: Evening Song
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:01:22 PM
Evening Song is not especially fast, nor does she have the coveted runner's physique so prized among her kind. Instead, she enjoys singing, and is surprisingly good at it -- she has written songs inspired by many different parts of the day and does enjoy singing in front of an audience.
Title: Feelgood
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:02:55 PM
Feelgood is a purveyor of herbs, of dried grasses, of certain flowers whose properties are rather ... groovy. He is exceptionally smart -- and he has to be, to remember what plants are psychadelics and which will kill you -- but more often than not he is floating on a cloud, under the sway of the 'herbal supplements' he loves so much. He'd be willing to give you the skin off of his back if he could, and is always up to offer newcomers something to 'ease their stay.' He can often be found with his cheetah tagging along at his heels.

Title: Afterlife
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:03:54 PM
Rather morbid and unrepentant about it, Afterlife is concerned with what will happen to her after she dies, and lives her life as best she can to that extent. She very rarely has an unkind word for anyone, and will help to the best of her abilities in any situation...

She has also been known to exhaustively watch and remember every thing that happens to a mouse as it decays, just so she will be prepared to experience the same once she dies.

Title: Errant
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:04:29 PM
A rough-and-tumble tomboy of an acha who loves to play-fight, and would sooner be the rescuer than the rescuee.

Title: Shout in the Dark
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:05:11 PM
Shout in the Dark speaks little but listens carefully, catching the subtext of a conversation with more ease than is normal. He is subtle and quiet in most things, with very little seeming effort. After all, if you do something right, no one will notice you've done anything at all...

He is always listening and rarely speaks because he is trying to understand the thing that was shouted in his naming dream -- he is still trying to figure out what it was, and what it meant.
Title: Raven Talker
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:05:51 PM
Not only does Raven Talker speak to ravens, she can hear portents and listen to gossip just by cocking an ear and listening to the bird song that surrounds her. Much like her namesake, however, she is every bit as dark and wild as the raven itself, cultivating an aura (albeit an honest one) of darkness and mystery, and is possessed of a raven's self-absorbed hardness. She is honest to a fault and can be a bit judgmental, but most of her judgments -- at least where people are concerned -- are right. She is a shrewd judge of character and always has at least part of her attention turned towards the wind, listening for things that might be coming.

This all serves to make her, in spite of everything else, a bit socially awkward when presented with situations she hasn't had time to prepare for.

She functions as something of a shaman and an advisor to the beautiful leader of her tribe. Some say she has always served in this function. No one has ever seen her take a mate or even dally with a buck (or a doe) -- which isn't to say she hasn't. She just prefers not to.

Title: Strength of Many
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:06:51 PM
The journey to their spring territory was often a harsh one. Winter snowmelt and treacherous ice made the going difficult most years. This years' journey was a spectacularly difficult one, for not only did they deal with known dangers, they had to make their journey through the howling, sodden cold of a blizzard.

When they came to a ravine over which they had traveled many times, they were forced to pause: the natural stone bridge which they had used to cross had collapsed into a jumble of rocks at the bottom. Stuck, and with conditions worsening, the totoma considered returning to their winter grounds: until one totoma doe, known for her stubbornness and physical strength, came to a decision.

Calling her tribe-mates to follow her, she made her way to a nearby tree: using their combined strength as well as her own, they strained, pushed and successfully toppled the ancient tree, which -- once the leaves, snow and dust had settled -- served as their new bridge to the spring grounds.

Strength of Many is stubborn and focused, but also a gatherer of peoples. She has an ability to gather up different kin and get them to band together towards a common goal. She is also particularly physically strong, and is a swift-footed, powerful hunter, who has made good her ability to band people together by arranging hunting parties to keep her tribe well-fed.

Since moving into the swamp and becoming one in the ranks of Rise and Shine, she has begun to use her abilities to help secure food for the tribe .. though she feels a little out of sorts among so many non-totoma.
Title: Into the Wind
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:07:43 PM
Wind is cocky, boyish, and some would say a disgrace of an acha. She is a bit of a social butterfly, flitting from one group to another, making friends as easily as enemies. She is long-legged with a pleasantly lean, compact form, and is blessed with the endurance and athleticism of her father, Longstride.

As Into the Wind is mostly queer, she seems to prefer the ladies, but will entertain the right buck if he comes along.
Title: Flashover
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:08:24 PM
Flashover is a strong personality, given to fits of temper and rage that are over almost as soon as they've started. She is a go-getter and a mover when she is in control of her passions, in control of herself and everything around her. As soon as her temper flares, however, she has to let it swell up and then die down on its own.

She is a scout, though the very nature of the job might seem questionable with her temper. When she's not on duty she spends quite a bit of time with her brother Ghost Moth.
Title: Ghost Moth
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:08:56 PM
It alights on his nose, pale and translucent -- a moth exactly the color of moonlight. It weighs almost nothing, and for a moment he cannot be sure if he is dreaming or not.

Then he blinks: and the moth is gone as if it had never been there. A ghost?

Despite his somewhat untamed appearance, Ghost Moth is a gentle soul, somewhat introspective and quiet. He is a caretaker for the Vale, though he has been known to moonlight as a scout when there are gaps in patrols. He much prefers the methodical pastimes of cultivating plants and clearing land.

Quiet by nature, Ghost Moth has a few friends, but is closest to his sister Flashover, acting as something of a soothing presence.
Title: Unmoved
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:09:50 PM
Unmoved is like a boulder sunk down deep into the mire: impossible to shift, impossible to move. His opinions are solid and unchanging, his convictions are high, and he is physically strong.  The only thing to do is to avoid him.
Title: WAIL
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:10:49 PM
Wail comes off as introverted, withdrawn, certainly strange and more than slightly creepy. His is a realm of silence, despite his name. He does not speak much, if at all. When he does his voice is a strange thing, at once both rough and warbling, perhaps because of a defect to his vocal cords or throat. He has an extremely high tolerance for pain and the natural athleticism of the kiokote, so Wail finds himself on watch and circuit more than some of his other Tidewalkers. Perhaps he indulges his creepy nature -- perhaps he doesn't -- but there are rumors spread about him and more than once his transparent, ghostly form walking through the mists has spooked young foals into fleeing.

Title: Grey Worm
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:11:26 PM
A worm is small and insignificant, but it plays a huge role in the turnings of the world. This has made a profound impact on the kiokote, who sees himself as just one in a sea of many kin. He is dutiful, agreeable, and loyal -- but he is somewhat unimaginative and is honestly about as dull as dirt. Grey Worm takes the concept of 'duty' to the extreme. He would be a type A personality if he had one at all. Or maybe it's just buried underneath a very strong sense of obligation...
Title: Fog Comes In
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:11:59 PM
Sneaky, secretive, Fog Comes In is a dedicated hunter and not at all sweet or kind. During the hunt she is focused and a little cruel, toying with her prey for as long as she can before finally killing it; after, she is smug and preening until something else catches her attention. She tends to leave messes behind: a pile of bones, feathers, splashes of blood -- .. it doesn't matter.

In her social dealings she still comes off as a bit messy, a bit unprepared, unless she's had time to cultivate her responses. Then she becomes a perfectly put-together lady, albeit one with a snarky little catsmile and one whose eyes constantly drift away...

Title: Mask
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:12:36 PM
Who is she, exactly? Nobody knows. She's just another pretty face. Mask keeps her thoughts closed up and locked away and seems to enjoy slipping into and out of situations without leaving much of a mark. She is very intelligent, polite but firm, and can come off cold and reserved at her worst. It's hard to figure out who she really is, as she is never the same thing to any two people.

Title: Pearl of Wisdom
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:13:07 PM
Pearl fancies herself a fortune-teller and is a master of assuming airs and graces that make herself seem totally legit. She has a habit of wandering about with her eyes closed, relying on her other senses to get around obstacles. This makes her seem delicate (which she is), mystical and enlightened (which she is most likely not).
Title: All Unknowing
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:13:33 PM
Like his mother, All Unknowing must know all there is worth knowing but is drawn to the darker things in life. Unlike her, this has had an effect on his sanity/mind -- he is drawn to things that are dark, disturbing, or not common knowledge. He is quite intelligent, but perpetually distracted and a little bit unhinged (though he is not violent -- merely a touch off): imagine knowing truths that not a single other person knows.
Title: Cloudflare
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:14:36 PM
Never the same thing from one day to the next, Cloudflare is a flashy, laughing, carefree sort. Only those who can keep up with her endless supply of energy and extraversion need apply. She's as often laughing at you as laughing with you, but she's not mean at all.
Title: Star-Crossed
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:15:21 PM
Destined for someone -- the question is, who? Star-crossed is searching for that special someone, but his idea of just who it is is unknown. He has a vast list of criteria, however, and so far, nobody has met it...
Title: Avenger
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:15:44 PM
Angry at everything, and overprotective of his siblings and his tribe. The only apparent balm to his anger is his brother Guiltless. Nobody knows why he's angry; he's not exactly telling.
Title: Aflutter

A fop, a dandy, who watches butterflies and sketches them in the sand.

Title: Stand Your Ground
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:18:08 PM
Title: Blackheart
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:18:45 PM
Just as her name implies, Blackheart has no love for anything; the fairest emotion she feels is desire. Petty because she can be and cruel by nature, she is a dominant doe who has turned her brother Unwanted into something of a servant. Do not cross this one: she was taught well by momma Malice and is still very close to her .. until the day comes when it's more profitable not to be.

Title: Unwanted
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:19:30 PM
Thoroughly downtrodden by his sister Blackheart, Unwanted is relatively convinced he has no place in life beyond that of a peon or a servant. He will not make eye contact with Blackheart (or Malice, or really any doe), and goes about his business as if stepping on eggshells. He might have been something else had he escaped his family.
Title: Lioness
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:19:58 PM
Willful, ambitious and has a certain low cunning. She is, in her opinion, quite astute, and feels slighted when people do not jump to her erratic commands. She resents the customs and conventions put on her because of her gender, but never realizes that people do not come to her or respect her commands because she is an ineffectual leader.
Title: Deathtouch
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:20:27 PM
Pure as the driven snow, with a coy look and fluttering eyelashes and the perfect tilt of her head so that her long hair slides over one shoulder ... but lethal. She's a psychopath to the full extent of the definition -- and most don't find that out until too late.
Title: Waterspring
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:21:06 PM
In the dead of winter, sometimes there is not enough snow on the ground to melt for water. In the middle of a cold, dry winter, one of the driest in tribe memory, this buck went in search of water to drink -- his tribe was thirsty and there were new foals who should not have been made to suffer. Everyone thought he was a fool for walking out into nothingness in search of water nowhere to be found .. until by chance (or not), the totoma stomped his hoof in frustration, cracked a thin layer of frozen dirt, and up bubbled fresh water from a natural spring. The buck's one act of luck potentially saved an entire tribe (and absolutely saved some newborn foals) from a slow death from thirst.

Waterspring doesn't talk much beyond grunts and shrugs, more prone to action than words. He is a bit stolid and awkward around everyone but small children, where his natural paternal instincts come out (well .. in enough time).
Title: Breakthrough
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:22:07 PM

Breakthrough will do it, will keep doing it, until she succeeds -- or until she dies. All she needs is the direction, the suggestion, She is single-minded in her intensity, and some say there is something a little less than sane in her bright orange eyes; it might be because without a task put before her, she tends to linger in one place, inactive and still. However, she will do whatever she has set out to do with a gleam in her eyes and a wild grin twisting up her mouth.
Title: Honeymouth
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:22:33 PM

Title: Slickrock
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:23:01 PM
Hard to pin down, Slickrock is interested in everyone and everything, small smiles and helpful eyes and worried mein, at least long enough to get your secrets out of you. Then it's on to the next one. Watch your footing.
Title: Autumn-Crowned
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:23:34 PM
Exuberant and childlike in her joy and innocence, Autumn-crowned lives for the days when the sun slats golden through the mangroves and she can make flower crowns to wear in her hair. She hates hot weather and usually hides during the hottest part of the year, but is a evening- and night-owl and can often be found running about in the fading light, as happy as a child. It doesn't matter that she's an adult, should be acting like an adult -- there's no fun or joy in that. A gentle madness.

Title: Blackfish
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:24:50 PM
As a child she played in the icy streams and meltwater pools in her tribe's territory; as an adult, she was always among the volunteers to go to the deepest lakes and farthest rivers to bring in a catch from the waters. She had a taste for fish, but also one for danger -- her favorite thing to do was haul in the big, slick, struggling blackfish from the surf, jaws clamped into its flesh. Time after time she did this, until one day she returned with a fish and earned its name.

Blackfish is strong and competent and maybe a little overconfident, but she makes up for it in her unceasing drive to help others.

Title: Pale Ash
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:25:49 PM
Dainty, long-legged and ephemeral, with glowing eyes the hallmark of his kimeti mother, Pale Ash seems to exist in his brother Woodsmoke's shadow, but does not mind that. He is quiet -- though some might at first think him withdrawn, Pale Ash is just thoughtful and likes to think before he speaks. This means sometimes he makes people more than a little impatient if they're waiting on a quick answer or snap judgment from him, but it also means Pale Ash is usually fairly zen.

Every bit as athletic and capable as Woodsmoke, Pale Ash prides himself on his fleet feet and quick foot work.
Title: Woodsmoke
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:26:37 PM
Somehow the combination of kimeti and kiokote ancestry culminated in Woodsmoke being rather large and muscular for a kiokote -- he is an athletic, outdoorsy type, given to feats of strength and with an odd knack for hunting. He's a man's man, complete with a polite, friendly, easygoing manner.
Title: Cry For Help
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:27:29 PM
Worldly and world-weary, Cry for Help often is tasked with escorting his odd sister Shallow on her doings through the swamp. Somehow he always manages to find the broken ones. This has left him a bit frustrated and sometimes snappy and bitter.

Title: Shallow
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:27:58 PM
Shallow is innocent, though prone to brooding. She has fits of temper that leave her wandering through the swamp at night, melancholy and angry at the same time -- though what brings these fits on she doesn't know. They embarass her when they're through. She is wary of others because she can't sort out their intentions, but she can get on well enough with help from her brother Cry for Help.

Title: Struggle
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:28:48 PM
A consummate believer in equality, Struggle wholeheartedly feels that all kin should work together for the greater good, and should help one another as best they can. Whether this means pooling resources, physical work, or social equality, Struggle is for it. Kin who do not share her worldview are treated kindly, but Struggle feels as though they are incapable of making the right choice and must therefore be led along to the best outcome. Sometimes she comes off as a little preachy, a little overzealous, but she is worldly and intelligent -- just ... extremely opinionated and vocal about it.
Title: Shark's Eye
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:29:15 PM
Very, very much like her father. She loves to swim, and is a strong swimmer and something of a daredevil, with just a touch more sense than Longstride, but not much. She wants to swim out into the deepest water where the sharks are known to hunt, and see the giant creatures that slipped in and out of her dream. She is rather idiosyncratic, very much her own person, opinionated and loud.
Title: Scattershot
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:29:43 PM
A capable huntress, and seems to lack anything resembling fear. She is skilled in flanking and tracking maneuvers and possesses the ability to take prey down by running them to exhaustion, but where is the fun in that? She prefers bloodsport to distance hunting and knows she's good at it.
Title: Windstroke
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:30:05 PM

Title: Birth Day
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:30:28 PM

Title: Into the Dark
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:30:57 PM

Somehow, Shadow has made her way out of the caves of her ancestral home, pulled north by tales of a beautiful kimeti doe and her small tribe that lived in the apple woods of the northern swamp. Shadow is something of a storyteller, spinning tales about things she has never seen (since she is totally blind). Many of her stories feature themes of dark and light. She has charmed All She Surveys and has even passed Raven Talker's muster.
Title: Nighthawk
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:31:27 PM
Brooding, tense, and athletic, Nighthawk is always seeing things out of the corners of her eyes. Not quite jumping at shadows, she is merely seeking challenges, seeking danger. She's something of a vigilante, trying to find wrongs to right them, but never quite making it. Not yet, anyway.

Title: Sees the Unseen
Post by: phoe on May 30, 2019, 11:37:32 PM
Raven Talker's eldest child (the first of the sacs to hatch), Sees the Unseen sees shadows and specters dancing in beams of light, among the dust motes. Easily scared and startled and not much of a fighter, Sees the Unseen is a pacifist who simply tries to get through each day without seeing anyone's demise. He lives in fear that one day he will foresee his own death.

Small and slim for a buck, Utter Darkness is nonetheless authoritative, dour and dark, his saturnine features rarely pulling into a smile. Title: Little Maker
Post by: phoe on May 31, 2019, 06:52:22 PM
Industrious and mysterious, Little Maker has inherited her father's obsession with the sandworms he speaks about. She is convinced the great cave worms of the swamp are another iteration, which has led her to an equal fascination with the zikwa caves. As soon as the beams of light from the obelisk shot through the skies of the swamp, she headed north.

Title: Runs-In-The-Blood
Post by: phoe on May 31, 2019, 06:53:03 PM
A hunter for the Court, admission granted by his status as Fair's grandson. Though she is the summer queen, his allegiances fall more towards the winter side. He is a hunter and enjoys the thrill of the chase, right down to his bones, and after every large, successful kill he smears the blood of his prey all over him, to remind him of his own mortality... and maybe just because he enjoys it.

Title: Moonpool
Post by: phoe on May 31, 2019, 07:00:08 PM
Still searching for the piece of the moon he saw in his dreams, that came crashing to earth -- and which may or may not have been the reflection of the moon in a still, small pool hidden somewhere in the swamp. Moonpool's head is in the clouds at all times, and he gives off a solitary, wistful vibe. He's just too busy (or too preoccupied) to have much of a social life.
Title: Groundbreak

A bit snippy and prone to speaking before he's gotten all the information or a chance to digest it, Groundbreak is a pretty talented critic with an eye for fashion -- .. when he can have a moment to think out his responses before he lets them loose. He's only made himself a few enemies, though, his natural gregariousness (and quick hooves) have served him well.

Title: Ravensdown
Post by: phoe on May 31, 2019, 07:02:09 PM
Gentle and soft by nature but a little monstrous in appearance, Ravensdown has inherited his grandmother's ability to see portents and signs in the flight paths of birds. Well aware that others mock his ability (and whether this is true talent or complete delusion is unknown), he keeps it to himself, but Ravensdown does have a slightly uncanny ability to know when the weather's about to change, or whether a newcomer is due to arrive in his part of the swamp.

Title: Preserver
Post by: phoe on May 31, 2019, 07:23:00 PM
When food supplies ran scarce, the tribe began to panic. It was still a few weeks until the first thaw; there were no more winter plants, and spring had not yet passed by to leave new growth in its wake. Winter-born foals were beginning to look thinner and paler, and that was something that one childless doe could not stand. For some time she had been considered uninteresting, unremarkable, and somewhat selfish, always keeping the best food for herself and making sure she got the lion's share of everything. When the tribe was just shy of panicking over food and the first foal lay down and never got up again, the totoma doe seemingly had a change of heart -- leading the tribe to a small concealed cave in which she had stored plenty of early and mid-winter plants, berries, tree bark and mushrooms, all lovingly preserved in snow. For this selfless act, the tribe began to call her Preserver, as much for the food as for keeping the tribe alive.

Post by: phoe on May 31, 2019, 07:28:32 PM
Something is shining, down below, in the water. She can barely see it through the ripples the wind makes in the pool, and the spangles that the moonlight sends dancing over its surface, but it's there, and it beckons her. The pool is dark, and she's still young; she's only just begun to wander knee-deep in the river, but nothing has ever taunted her, called to her, like the shining thing on the bottom of the pond.

Seconds later she dives in, streams of bubbles escaping from her nose and mouth and legs paddling strongly. By the time she reaches the bottom her lungs burn and she feels as though she might burst. But the shining stone flickers through the weeds and mud in front of her, reflecting in her eyes.

She surfaces with the shining, scintillating thing in her mouth: a water opal, the same colors as her sodden coat, reflecting the moon in the sky in all its facets.

She's a little bit crazy: paranoid and unfriendly, and then laughing and manic by turns, Hollow Laughter is unstable. She can't seem to deduce the meanings behind things, and often completely misinterprets social cues, seeing the exact opposite of reality. She is all intention without any follow through. She often keeps to herself, staying at the fringes of things, alone, to avoid getting in over her head.
Title: High Summer
Post by: phoe on May 31, 2019, 07:38:40 PM
High Summer is kind, compassionate and thoughtful, wanting to see all kin work together and exist peacefully within the swamp. He tends to speak his mind and is always honest, exercising easy diplomacy when the situation calls for it. He would be a great boon to any tribe wishing to expand its ranks or work with another. He tall and lean, with a slim swimmer's build, and is quite striking with long, windswept white hair, stunning sapphire blue eyes, and a pelt the color of dark mahogany. His expression tends towards bemusement and polite interest. He favors the water and sun-washed beaches, and is secretly a bit lonesome for them. Unfortunately, he is no Tidewalker and would not fare well living in such a rough place.

Based on Tarquin from the ACOTAR series.

Rafting in on the tide, eyes staring up into the bright white sky, ears clogged with water until they were filled with the raucous cries of seagulls, he came into awareness. All around him the water was red, like blood or marrow, and he wondered at it. It was as red and warm as the womb as he drifted in against the beach, with the slow scrape of sand against his flank.

And then he suddenly spilled out of his sac in a wash of red fluid, blinking awake, coming back alive, as he came to rest against the soft brown ground.
Title: Rite of Spring
Post by: phoe on May 31, 2019, 07:41:22 PM
A lonely buck who is constantly searching for the right doe. Unfortunately, he can become quite controlling when he finds a doe that catches his eye, and this tends to push them away. He keeps a large territory in a fertile section of the swamp and maintains its borders with vigor. He is grumpy and bad-tempered, prone to childish outbursts -- but he manages to hide this tolerably well at first glance. His muscular, athletic good looks and long mane of wavy blonde hair help his charisma a bit.

Based on Tamlin from the ACOTAR series.
Title: Old Flame
Post by: phoe on May 31, 2019, 07:41:55 PM
During her travels to and around the swamp, Old Flame is constantly recognized, or remembered, as someone from a kin's past -- whether it's an old love, an old friend, or even just a passing acquaintance. Even if she's never met the stranger before, they never part as such: she makes new friends wherever she goes, because nobody seems to remember they've never seen her before...

Title: Moonphase
Post by: phoe on May 31, 2019, 07:42:44 PM
Moonphase is, for someone ruled completely by their basest instincts and deepest desires, a creature of habit: unexpected, perhaps, except that they also base those habits by the phases of the moon. It pulls at them, a sort of tugging sensation in the light. When the moon is dark and hidden, they indulge in feasting on still-trashing fish pulled from the ocean, on bugs plucked alive from the vine, on finding a suitable mate and securing the next generation. When the moon is full they come together with the rest of the coven and pay homage to their friendship, their desires, and those that are pregnant try to time sac-laying for these nights. On other nights, they do as they will, not stopping at all to think of cost or reason, but to do exactly as they will, as their bodies and minds need, at any time. What steals their breath, what breaks them open, what lures them in...

Post by: phoe on May 31, 2019, 07:47:24 PM
In his dream, he stands on top of a hill, surveying the land beneath him, as a cool wind ruffles his sweat-soaked hair.

Only when he begins to descend, and a hoof sinks deep into soft, wet flesh, does he realize he stands on a pile of corpses.

Fight to the Death is a proud buck, tall and muscular, and isn't afraid to speak his mind or use force to defend what's his. He moves with utter confidence and can back that confidence up with physical prowess. Nothing much seems to get to him, because under the surface, there isn't much there. He's a one-trick pony.

Title: No Escape
Post by: phoe on June 16, 2019, 10:55:14 PM
inspired by the first pictures of the black hole M87

No Escape is a hunter with much practice and patience under her belt and a vast appetite. She's brought down many types of prey, from cave worms to foxbun to caiman almost her own weight -- and she is always, ALWAYS hungry. To try and make the best out of any kill, she has honed talents at skinning and keeping pelts and leathers fresh, trying to make any kill more than just worth its weight in meat. She often has a fervid light in her eye, despite the calmness of her speaking voice.

She is always seeking out new things to kill (and new people to meatmeet). She tends to draw people in through sheer force of her quiet, intense personality, and then -- if they're unlucky -- chews them up and spits them out. Rumors abound about her particular preferences. She does not confirm or deny, believing herself to be above stooping to anyone's lower level. Secretly very fond of a certain doe, but keeps those feelings out of the public eye.

After the events at the shattered totoma Obelisk, No Escape has had her world shaken out a bit. She realizes that she didn't -- and maybe still doesn't, not really -- have much of an imagination. She was all thrust and no vector. But now she's realizing there is more than what meets the eye. She was very in the moment all the time -- and now she has a glimpse beyond the veil of how things may actually really be.

Title: Falling Leaf
Post by: phoe on July 14, 2019, 03:21:55 PM
Serious and studious, Falling Leaf is a competent tumbler and acrobat: good at somersaults and flips, he can both leap high into the air (sometimes off of the backs of his kiokote siblings) and provide boosts to his acha siblings to get them some airtime, as well. He practices quite a bit, using the swamp's uneven terrain to his advantage. He is quick to seize opportunities that will benefit his family and his tribe, from scouting out prime locations to ensuring that they have enough food and fresh water -- and does so, sometimes, with an industrious and more than slightly opportunistic eye. He tends towards long thoughtful pauses and small bits of conversation, but he has an expressive face and a big deep baritone laugh when someone says something particularly funny.
Title: Laughing Star
Post by: phoe on August 17, 2019, 11:56:45 PM
Stars twinkle when they laugh.

Small and petite with a pleasantly compact body. Always has a smile on her face and a silly little joke to share, or an interesting thing to point out, often just when a friend seems subdued or sad. She prefers to be happy and at least cheerful, making an effort to be that way, and sometimes gets frustrated with people who seem to want to stay unhappy all the time.
Title: Dragged Under
Post by: phoe on August 17, 2019, 11:57:29 PM
Tall and long-legged, dark and dour, doesn't talk much and moves relatively silently. He prefers to be near water and is a very good swimmer, often swimming underwater for long periods of time -- he is able to hold his breath for quite a while. He mostly eats fish. When he can be goaded into conversation, he will sometimes tell stories of the massive dark shapes he's seen moving deep under the water.

Title: Last Gasp
Post by: phoe on September 03, 2019, 08:40:26 PM
Quiet and sort of morbid. A quiet doe who seems to be looking through others instead of at them, with a long luxuriant mane of hair and many feathers tucked into her long tail. She prizes her own beauty and takes pains to keep herself pristine, often spending a lot of time bathing in whatever deep pools she can find. She is very fond of water.
Title: Seaswell
Post by: phoe on September 03, 2019, 08:47:15 PM
Quiet and composed on the outside, taking time to think about what she says before she says it. She may come off as less intelligent than she is, because she mostly ignores other kin when they act silly or stupid. Underneath her calm exterior is a huge reserve of energy and aggression that rises closer to the surface when she is irritated, and sometimes pours out of her in an torrent before she can stop it.
Title: Between Breaths
Post by: phoe on September 04, 2019, 11:11:50 PM
An intelligent, enthusiastic doe who is hard to follow in conversation and has many ideas and interests, drifting in and out of them constantly and sometimes abruptly. She is kind to others and especially to children, who she feels understand her better than adults. Not a huge fan of swimming, for whatever reason.

Circuit's grinning sister, a bit too tall and too lean, who beseeches and beguiles and basically lures unsuspecting kin into buying her wares: carefully stored leaves, mushrooms, fungus, anything she can find that might soothe a hurt or cure a sprain, or -- for those kin who want something a bit different, cause pain or hurt in others, or even affect their minds. She keeps a careful tally of exactly what she sells to whom, in case she might need some sensitive information later. While she knows what she's selling, and always tells the truth there, nothing else she says can be trusted.
Title: Re: | phoe's kin |

Circuit has been doing the same thing for as long as he can remember: peddling wares on the kin of the swamp, alongside his sister and the rest of his family. Tall like Carrier, he is solid, a bit healthier-looking, muscles moving under his pelt as he navigates the same trails they always use. He is a creature of habit and any deviation from the norm is usually met with swift and brutal retribution. A lot of social nuance is lost on him, and he tends to be blunt, pointed, sometimes a little rude, and often unaware of any mistakes he might make.

Silent Smile is innocent, cocky, playful, ostentatious and and possesses a macabre sort of alluring, feminine beauty. However, these traits are literally only skin deep. Cold, calculating and callous in truth, she attracts sympathy and then immediately deploys it against whomever she faces. Like any kin, she has her moments of questioning, but she never actually surrenders to regret: not when she has too much fun playing cat-and-mouse with whoever decides to cross her path at the wrong moment.

Strange Whisper hears voices sometimes; he's convinced he's surrounded by the ghosts of past kin and is always trying to figure out how to communicate with them. Title: End of Light
Post by: phoe on May 15, 2020, 05:47:02 PM
aka Night

Almost completely blind during the day, Night's eyes are large and extremely sensitive to light. She prefers to sleep during the daylight hours or spend her time in heavily shaded areas, or even under trees or overhangs; whatever she can find. When she must travel by day, she relies heavily on Death of Night to guide her from place to place.

She revels in the dark, with superb night vision, and acts as Death of Night's eyes during that time. She carries on most of her business in the dark of night, and as such cultivates a witchy and almost eldritch sense about her. Her large, serious, pale eyes often strike other kin as unnerving when she turns the full weight of her gaze on them. She is small of stature with a long, aristocratic face and long slim limbs, but the seriousness of her gaze and the strangeness she properly cultivates make her seem larger than she is.

A decent ambush hunter, who lies in wait for whatever has caught her fancy that day. She has an incredible appetite and trades the spoils of whatever she kills for other food. She doesn't seem to have much of a need for trinkets or impractical things. She hunts with the aid of her wolf, who she found as a pup.

A friendly buck with a huge frame and a jolly, booming baritone. Enjoys every moment to its fullest. Hospitable and kind, he has no aims to be tied down but instead roves from companion to companion. He's never met an enemy; even past relationships don't have anything bad to say about him.

A traveler, usually seeking out warmer climates in the winter. Self-sufficient and self-contained, she's not much of a conversation starter.

Quite, quite mad, jumpy and excitable, he believes the moon speaks to him. He's more than a little creepy.

Based off of the Local 58 video Weather Service.

An enigmatic hunter for the Vale who, despite his glamourous mane of hair, is not afraid to get his hooves dirty. Doesn't seem to mind carnage or gore.

A kin who follows the sun, doing good deeds always under its rays. Never seems to need to rest in the shade; a true creature of heat and light.
